I have a 76 3+3 GMC which was originally 2wd and now has all the running gear from a 75 3/4 ton Chevy 4wd under it. Been looking at purchasing a 6 inch lift for it. I think OE drive lines will work with a 6 inch lift...am I right or do I need to get them extended? I know one could get a 3+3 starting in 79 or 80 in 4wd and the 4wd's have the two piece rear drive lines. Anyone have any experience with the two piece rear drive line and a lift?
Now that I am thinking about it I think a 4 inch lift requires no extended drive lines....

When I lifted my 79 k10 6 inches it needed new drive shafts. The front or rear would not even reach. With a 4 inch you could be ok without having them lengthened. Every truck is different. You'll just have to lift it and have them lengthened accordingly.

kinda what i was thinking. i have installed a couple lifts in the past but a two piece rear driveline is something that i have not delt with nor something 30+ years old. probably just end up in a shop for the install. thx

the thing about two piece shaft is you can drop them down 4" and make up what you lose with the 4 or 6" lift. I would get a 6" and put some fat tires in the rear make it d wheels instead of 6

What the ??? fat tires in the rear? d wheels instead of 6? Its 4x4 the tires all need to be the same size.

lol what I meant was like 18s or something in the rear in 12s in the front and I was on my palm forgot to push shift hit the d button for 4 but only got a d if that makes any sense

I was on CL last night looking for lifts and ran into a post with a guy selling a 76 3+3 4wd (which also used to be 2wd) which had a 6 inch lift and 37's on it. I sent him an email asking about the lift and weather drivelines were lengthened...he said no drive line modifications..just straight bolt on lift..no fender trimming...looked good.

Sorry...I looked at the email again and he said it would clear 37's but is currently running 35's

guys, abit OT is it easy to lift 4" of 77 3+3 2wd? aside from converting to axel/leafsprings
