Title: Wheel Questions???
Post by: bigred on February 01, 2010, 03:54:52 pm
Lately I have been thinking putting some new wheels on my red 87 1/2 ton 2wd shortbed Silverado. I have Weld draglites (not the unilug pattern, just 5x5) on there right now. I purchased them new back in 1999 and they still look good.  I have 15x10's out back with 15x8's up frontwith 255/70/15 tires. I was kind of thinking of going with all 8's because of the lesser amount of hassle involved with rotating my tires. I have stock silver painted 15x8 ralleys with trim rings and centers on my 85 and I like those but want something a little different. Has anyone taken a wheel like this one http://www.wheelsforless.com/images/ion/171t.jpg or something similar and put the stock center caps on them or some kind of bowtie center cap.I thought it might kinda look just a little like the stock aluminum wheels some to these trucks came factory with. I also thought of goin with some type of 17x8 aluminum wheels with 255/60/17 tires. I'd like to find something with 3 or 3.5 inch backspacing to keep the tires from being tucked toofar inside of the wheel well. Anyone opinions? Thanks.

You want 4 inches of backspacing I would think or else when you turn it would probably hit the front/back of fender lip.

You don't want to go with less then 4" if it is dropped because it will rub.  If it isn't dropped I think anything over that stick out to far.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking the 15x8 welds I have on the front now are 3.5 b.s. I can't remeber for sure.I have the paper with the part number (90series 58416m) from when I ordered them but it doesn't tell b.s. I did lower my truck slightly, around 2 inches via the coils. It doesn't rub currently but I guess it would if it was ever lowered more, right? My 87 truck did kinda set up higher in the front than a lot of trucks I've seen from the factory. It sits level and does not have a rake to it like my 85 and many other factory trucks I've seen. I also lowered the rear about 2 in. via shackles.
