Since it snowed last night I decided to drive the K10 to the train. Halfway there the driveshaft came out (havent looked at the drive shaft it was down the road the wife picked it up :) ) the caps are still in the straps at the rear not sure about the front too dark this A.M and now too dark in the P.M could the U Joint just break for no reason (except for being cheap china stuff ??) So my wife picked me up again halfway to the train station going up a small hill no ice hit the bottom and 50 the tach at about 2k (automatic F*rd Escape hill pitch around 10 to 15 degrees) the Rpm's shot up close to 5k no shifting at all I tried manually shifting nothing got to the top put it in neutral and reved the engine put it in gear went 10 feet seemed fine started to drive started do it again so I put it in Neutral reved the engine heard a pop then what sounded like the chain let loose reved the engine it sounded rough but had power put it in gear and she shifted fine but still sounded like the chain was just a rattling away (should of went home but too busy at work) tonight I get home and looking at it their is a huge hole in the side of the Egr valve (again cheap China stuff??) I have never seen that with out a hammer or something heavy hitting it. Any one have insight since its a F*rd could the Egr tell the trans when to shift ?

Man I hope things start going better for you, it seems like one bad thing quickly turns into a whole day of back luck.

Things are not looking good for this year maybe I should sleep the rest of the year :)
Finally able to get under the K10 (still havent figured out how it came out) drive shaft had a slight bend to it (boneyard here wanted 100 bucks for it) so I put it in the press and got it pretty straight :) go to pull out got about 10 feet it stops no wheel spin nothing try all gears (on transfer case) nothing so looks like the transfer case went :( .
Tell my wife to Take Her F*rd to the store to go food shopping while I try and figure out the truck. Nope she takes mine (04 Cavalier) she comes home in a plume of smoke as she pulls into the driveway I can just smell the clutch burning she tells me she cant shift gears , yep she burnt up the clutch.
Her car was fixed 4 oxy sensors and a coil now we have one good car (should of been two if she wouldnt drive my car)
Not sure who designed these newer cars but to get the trans out of the cavalier it seems you need to either pull the engine (might end up doing that to put it back togther) or drop the subframe (really cant do that now since I have the jack stands there and I dont see another spot to put the stands).

Sounds terrible. Don't take it out on your wife, though. She probably just got in your car when it only had an hour's worth of clutch left. Yeah, maybe you could have made it last three hours. One way or another it was gonna go.

fix the easiest first for transportation.
you can drive your pickup without activating the transfer case, and drive it just as rear wheel drive. Does that work?
usually u joints give you some kind of hint they are getting ready to let go...like a ticking sound, or a muffled bang when putting it in gear...due to the play in the driveshaft. But, yes, ujoints do go bad. i like to buy the kind with grease fittings and each time i am under the truck for whatever reason, i shoot some grease to them. Sometimes the grease fitting is hard to reach with a grease gun and the shaft has to be removed to grease em up.
if your front slip yoke came out, which i am sure it did, ensure your trans fluid level (since you say you can't get the tires to spin) is correct. fluid will drain out the tail of the trans.
when it rains it pours....or i should say, when it snows, murphy's law takes over. anything that can go bad usually does. we saw rain in Richmond yesterday, the first time i have seen rain in two months!! it has all been snow before yesterday.
**another thing, you say your truck won't go anywhere now, even though the driveshaft is in place? Make sure your rear end U bolts holding the rear axle to the leafs are fine. If your driveshaft wont turn the rear end now, even though you put it back, the distance between the rear axle and trans may have increased, thus, causing the front slip yoke to slip out of the tail of the trans enough to where the splines don't mesh. This is a long shot, but worth checking nevertheless.

Havent had time to work on the truck :(
Wifes truck blew a hole in the Egr again so I started thinking then did a web search the front cat was blocked causing the egr to blow a hole thought easy fix. Then I look up the parts 400 dollars for the front cats (to change em you HAVE to replace the exhaust manifold because they are one piece) so two front cats was going to be 800 plus the rest of the pipes muffler and last cat (yes 3 cats on that). I gave up and bought her a new car lol. Now I am going to the garage to pull the frame out of my car..

The cavalier clutch is not that bad to change. Just looks a little intimidating at first. good luck.

The clutch part was easy its getting the transaxle in and out lol
Dropped the frame tonight too tired to put the trans back in will do that in the morning..

Car is as finished as I can do. Tie rod nuts were just spining so I had to replace em so tomorrow it goes for a alignment. Opps forgot I busted a Canister purge valve have to put that in , in the morning . 17 hours to tear it down and put it back togther thinking pulling the engine and trans as one unit would of cut that in half :(
