So my buddys got a 73 4x4 1 ton,and I want it.The only problem is its beat up really bad body wise.I want to do a 4 wheel drive, and it is my lucky #(73).I can get it for next to nothin,so should I get it?
-
If you want a 4x4 and its cheap then i say go for it... They say its like a lays potato chip you cant have just 1.. ::)
thanks
pat

you might want to think about the ratio of it a 1 ton might have some high numbers might not be good for a dd
-
go for it! If thats what you want to do, then do it. I wouldnt worry about the gear ratios, that can easily be overcome by larger tires, which you were probably thinking anyway. This way you dont have to worry about changing the gears when you put the larger tires on.

Gold!

Definitely GOLD!
Any sentence with the words 4x4, 1-ton and 'next to nuthin' is a winner!

Lucky, don't take this as a "dig" (as in, I'm setting you up for one...) but looking at that truck is like going shopping at my local Walmart - I feel pretty good about myself afterward. I look at all of the nice shiny trucks some guys on this forum have and I start feeling pretty down about the condition of my project. Then I look at what some other guys are wrenching on and it gives me the motivation to soldier on and get my boy's truck running again. Good luck with it. The price was right, I sold a set of 3/4 ton axles for more than what you paid for it.
And that's another thing I like about this site - no matter the condition of your "pride and joy", there's lots of folks cheering you on.
-
Thanks for every body's support.I don't plan on spending alot of money on this, but plans can always change.Id like to get the body some what strait(replace fenders doors bed)I have a buddy that would part out a 3+3.its got all the panel's and a 454.
-
It's a great truck. GOLD ;)
-
Any cheap truck with a Dana 60 is Gold.
-
i think it is junk. but i would be more than happy to drive there and bring it back for me or i mean scrap.lol its got some good potential. nice find
-
heck I didn't think of the dana 60 I was trying to buy just the front axle and the guys want 700+ for a basic one. good deal besides its not what other people think just what you think. just think about some tool you see driving a vett and thinking he's all that but its just a car can he haul anything in it, when was the last time you saw one hauling a trailer lol.
-
I had 3 vettes and they all hauled into the 13 second 1/4 mile range.
-
when was the last time you saw one hauling a trailer lol.
i saw one last year pulling a trailer that was hauling his tires and equipment to the race track, I admit i think its just wrong, but I did see it.

Ok the capton says the 1 ton 4x4 wasnt avilable in 73.im going to post a pix of the vin plate.it has to be all stock stuff.
-
I thought the single wheel one ton came out in 1977>
-
I checked the vin.its a 3/4 ton.But is still cool ;D
-
What does it take to convert a 3/4 to a 1 ton?
Perhaps at some point a previous owner upgraded suspension and leaf springs?
Just a thought.
-
One tons have a totally different frame. Also have a dana 60 front axle.
-
how is the frame totally different? ???
-
I think they are something like .030 thicker and where the frame goes under the cab it is around 2 inches higher. I still am not sure if they are different than a 3/4 or not though. I have been told they are the same as 3/4 and not same. Maybe someone with a 3/4 could tell us how tall their frame rail is. Also 1 tons rear shocks are located inside the frame.
-
now don't quote me on this but i had a 3/4 ton frame well 2 of them both were the same size and they both were as thick as my 1/2 ton about 6" don't know if thats light duty or what but i saw a 1 ton that was like 8" or something. not sure about cab part tho never saw anthing that stood out
-
I just came up on an 8'' lift and extended drive lines for 400$Gona be sweet.ill post pix in projects when I start to do it ;D
-
That's a good deal just make sure u have the same size rear srpings or you will be cutting and pasting
-
Did anyone notice the perfectly straight front bumper? That's worth a close to a couple of hundred right there!
-
same size leaf springs ???what do you mean
-
the chevy trucks came with 52" or 56" rear springs they cant be swapped out with each other
-
the chevy trucks came with 52" or 56" rear springs they cant be swapped out with each other
All you have to do is move the rear spring hanger to switch from one to the other. Grind off the rivits, clean them up and reattach them using grade 8 hardware.
-
Realy thats good to know.thanks, but what trucks came with what size spring ???
-
you got to measure them to find out, thats why i said you might have to cut and paste. like Fitz explained it ain't nothing to do it
-
ok ill check it out.thanks again.
