Title: Head Lamps - The Highs and Lows
Post by: VeeTwin60 on February 21, 2010, 03:48:32 pm
I bought some new lamps for my '86.  Installed them, plugged them in the same way my old ones came out, but I do not have hi-beams.   The lights do come on when I switch, but the beams aren't any brighter down the road.  I checked the part numbers written on the lights themselves (all 4), and they are the same - so it shouldn't matter where I put them.  Is this just an aiming issue?

All 4 shouldn't have the same part number.  Two should have three prongs in the back and two should have two prongs

That would make sense.  I'll have to look that over a bit more.

**EDIT**

Okay... looked at the plug ins.  The upper light has three wires, and the lower has two.  When I turn on the lights, the upper is on.  When I switch on the hi-beams, both are on.  But, it's like just have four lo-beams.  I verified the p/n etched on the lights, and all four are the same.  I ordered them from that one catalog... the "Crystal Clear Headlights".  Their catalog part numbers have two different numbers for upper and lower.

You need the harness for those crystal clear lights.

one should be a h4651 and the other should be an h4656 thats what they is at advance auto but i would make sure that the power wires is were they should be and make sure there grounded... the ground should be hooked the the radiator support straight to the harness and tied into the battery grounding point on the passenger side

its not stock so thoes numbers won't match. like vile said you need the harness. try to hit wire a light to the battery and see how that works
