Title: having problems w/ rr shackes
Post by: 9d6ss on February 24, 2010, 12:09:11 am
hey guys, I have an 81 shortbed. I dropped the frnt 4"'s (spindles and springs) and dropped the rr w/ belltech shackles and hangers. Now I have the the rr shackles hitting the bed? the truck use to b a work truck for one of the local high schools here in town. When I bought it had a flat bed and the maintence guy said it has heavy duty leaf springs, could that b the problem causing the bed to hit the shackles? Advise pls.

Hitting the bed floor or the bed support?

It would be my guess that the shackles are hitting the bed support, of which the fix would be to notch the support on each side to clear the drop shackles.  On my fleetside shortbed, the factory stock shackle is directly under the support and if I were to install drop shackles, I'd most definitely have to notch the support to get them to clear.  Can you post a picture of the area under the bed where the shackles hit so we can be sure of what you're describing?

I used western chassis shackles. In their instructions it says to do exactly as got2haul describes. The shackle itself actually comes into contact with the bed support. So you just need to cut away a little at the bed support directly behind the shackle.
