Title: RE: medium duty cabs, jewel:
Post by: Stewart G Griffin on February 26, 2010, 01:27:15 pm
i was cleaning up, actually i am desperately looking for some keys i've lost ( i would never clean up) and i found this jewel---it's a topkick brochure with the small window cabs for you to salivate over:

1) i know the cabs are different, but maybe the small panel can be un-welded out, you could take your window out and then the panel could be welded in place.  This small window would be great in the summer time.

2) Finding this has given me a possible idea---to make a mega pickup.  Use 2 or 3 beds welded together made to look like one big bed and either use one large wheel opening with accompaning dually fenders to accomodate the tandem wheels or use 2 openings--one for each axle.
Would this truck sell?

3) i must have gotten the brouchure, apparently, at the local pontiac-gmc dealer(that has recently gone out of business  :( another topic in and of itself to be discussed in another thread) when my parents brought the car in for service--this is an 86-87ish brouchure.  They just had these medium duty brochures on the rack back then---this is how awesome things were back then.
i can scan the whole brouchure if i get enough requests.

I thought it was the floors that made up the vast majority of the differences in them.

That and some firewall differences.

It seems that it would be easy ( for the right person) to cut the back of the cab out and weld that in

Would the fenders and hood fit a half ton with some modification or none at all?  Always thought it would look cool to have a GMC 6000 front end on a half ton 4x4.

yes it will fit, but you need the doors either cut and the core support clearanced it I remember right.  Be cheaper probably if you got the whole cab/frontend.

Did everyone get the scans ok?

2)Next assignment, for anyone who chooses to accept:   Who designed the front end, specifically the gmc grill on the 73-79 medium dutys?

Example:

i want to know the designer, all the details, as much info as possible.

Great look with the small back window but visibility is not very good.  I know most folks who are fans of the 60-66, liked the rare large back window.  I had a 63, 64, 65 and 69, all with the small rear window.  Just my $.02
