Title: edelbrock 1406 choke....
Post by: screamin86 on February 28, 2010, 11:43:48 pm
well  a few months ago a made a post about me having problems with my 1406 on my new 350 and since we've had so many crazy snow storms this year ive not touched the truck much untill about a week ago. well ive determained the main problem im having is the choke is not operating right. ive wired it up to my fuse block and grounded it to my alt bracket it starts easy but no fast idle and it stays closed it will not open like it should which is causing low rough smoking idle. if i tie the plate open it will idle alot better considering my cam and no smoke. is it possilbe the spring isnt set right inside the choke housing or am i still missing something completely lol. thanks everyone

I had problems with the choke on mine too, it would high idle and stay that way, way  too long. I had to loosen the screws and rotate the choke housing a little. That fixed it. I don't know why you don't have fast idle (unless the screw is adjusted out too far) but it sounds like the choke is indeed staying on too long. It needs to be adjusted some.

theres a fast idle screw on the throttle linkage left side... you can adjust it.. need either a stubby screw driver or take it off and do it that way.

Your choke should be wired off of an oil pressure switch so it only energizes when the engine is running. Where in the fuse block did you tap into it? Did you verify you have B+ at the choke coil?
