My np203 is leaking out of the plate (the passenger side cover) on the back side. The same plate they say to take the bottom two bolts out to drain it.
My confusion lies in this plate, by removing the two bolts and allowing the tcase drain doesn't that cause a leak to form? Is it self sealing? Is there a seal inside I need to replace or just silicone it?
I also need to know everyones opinion on fluid. In all my reading it says to fill the tcase with 10-40 motor oil, every mechanic I talk to says gear oil, not real sure what to do here. Opinions are always appreciated and thanks for any help.

I think the bolt are drilled all the way though so it can drain.I would just remove the cover and reseal it.I have drained mine with the bolts and didn't have a leak afterwards.

10w40 will work, don't use gear oil it is too heavy and won't lube the chain. There was gear oil in my truck when I bought it,I think it caused alot of slack in my chain.

Permatex makes a thread sealer that works well on those type applications. As far as the oil, the 203 needs to have no heavier than 10W40, it has an oil pump that runs off the output and pumps oil forward. If the oil is too heavy, the pump won't work causing premature failure.

I cleaned it all off and tok a closer look, it seems that the plate has a crack in it and is leaking out around the bearing. Anybody know where I can find a new plate? Or does anybody know what it's called? Thanks again for the help.

Local salvage/used parts yards. If no luck, this place has helped me out several times:
