I must say, the good Lord must be looking out for Engineer. Either that or he just loves Chevy pick-up trucks. :)
I had a thread running where I described scoring some cheap OE rust/dent free body parts from the C4C debacle.......
Now here is my latest "find". I was able to score a near perfect bed for my son's rust plagued '79 Chevy K-30.
It is off of a MO National Guard M-1008 K-30.
Other than a few small holes that were for radio antennas the bed is perfect. Those will be easy to fix come time for paint, then the bed will be A+. There is absolutly ZERO rust on this bed. Nowhere, none, zip, nada. The bed floor doesn't even have any dents in it. :o
Yeah, it's homely, but for $150.00, I aint complaining.

Good score.

Great score. How was the rest of the M1008?
Just be carefull when you go to sand the bed to prep it for paint. The Military used a paint called CARC and i guess it's some real nasty stuff to work with.

Great score. How was the rest of the M1008?
It was clean.
The truck was an old MO National Guard truck. I think it had less than 50,000mi on the odometer.
The fire station that we got the bed from got the M-1008 from a donation project that the MO Department of Conservation currently has running.
These rural F/Ds can get these trucks for free to build brush trucks out of.
These pick-ups are easier to fight brush fires with than say the bigger 2-ton based fire trucks, and as such they are pretty popular.
Don't mind seeing my tax dollars being spent on a sort of permenant reassignment of a good old Chevy K-30.
This particular M-1008 will probably not see another 10,000mi over the next 25 years. :D

The Military pick ups do tend to have low mileage. In the last few months I picked up 2 1984 M1028's. One truck had with 47K on it, the other had 14K on it.
