Ive never heard of this tranny. Is it the 4500's weaker brother or does this Guy on Cl not know what he's talking about?

this might help. looks like they were medium duty
-
It was used in all 93-up trucks that came with 5 speeds. It was a medium duty trans with overdrive.
-
Yes, its weaker of the NV4500. The NV3500 (New Venture, not Get Rag) was used in Half Ton and light duty 3/4 ton trucks. However, it is very similar to the Get Rag, I wanting to say Model 560 or aka in GM # 5LM60. Without looking for the crossovers, I could be wrong on the model #'s But for sure, its a half ton truck trans.
-
So would it bolt up to my 465 bellhousing? I rarely tow so this may work.
-
No, you will remove your SM465 bellhousing, this is a one piece unit. It will bolt in like an Automatic trans. Its also a top loaded stick shift too. I don't you'd have a problem, but make sure the stick will come up in a good location.
-
BTW, its the Getrag HM290, 5LM60 and NV3500 that are all alike. Some parts interchange amongst them, but not all. New Venture actually has taken over Get Rag, so its very possible they are the same transmissions and NV just gave it one of their model #'s after making some improvements or design changes.
-
hotrodpc, should be all of them have most parts interchanging. I also agree it is MUCH weaker in comparison to a NV4500 or the existing SM465 currently in the truck.
-
Thats a fact. It is NOT the strength of the NV4500 or SM465 either one. Not a bad trans. Just that it is a passenger car or light duty truck trans. I'm fairly certain its the same trans used in the S-10's too. I had 2 trucks with that trans behind a TBI 350, never had problems with it. One a 93 1/2 ton and 1 a 95 light duty 6 lug wheel 3/4 ton.

The sm465 in my 74 now is developing some issues that I'm not currently able to handle, I'm looking to swap over, I've got some parts to collect up first but and for what this truck is used for I think the 3500 will do nicely. Time to go to the junkyard... oh darn. ;D
