Title: problem truck backfireing
Post by: ratboom on March 24, 2010, 11:59:40 am
We have a 79 Chevy pickup with a 454. It has problems cold starting.
Although it runs fine once it does start.
Yesterday I was attempting to start it and the vapor build up blew up both
mufflers. How do I fix this starting problem so I don't do this again? It alarms the neighbors.
:o Thanks to anyone who has ideas !!

if you have a q-jet, they are notorious for leaking at the lead plugs in the base of the carb. The fix is to rebuild the carb and epoxy the lead plugs in the process. do a google seach for "quadrajet leak"

Of course, ignore the above if you don't have a q-jet.
