Two dash speakers, two kick panel speakers or door speakers, and two truck box speakers with an amp usually gives you the best sound in one of these.

yeah im putting in 2 12" rockford fosgate shallow mount subs behind the seats but i was going to use the back speaker pods and kick panels, wasnt sure about the dash. anyone got pics of that?

I just use the factory locations and modify the brackets.

mine doesn't have factory ones up front, it actually doesn't have them anywhere i just know that they came with some in the rear cab corners but thats all. i want kick panels but i dont know how to fit them in without bloking the bright button or ebrake. the after market ones look cool but i dont know if i want to spend $89 on them... im just looking for other options right now.

You can make the modifications. The locations are there for the factory locations. If you want I can take pix tomorrow as the dash is off in two of my trucks right now. I know you said you don't want to cut the speaker holes in the doors but if you can't afford a set of kick panel speakers it is an ideal location. I don't have any myself right now with speakers in the door but I'm sure someone here does and can post pix. If you do it right they sound good and look good.
