Title: Anyone know what this electrical box is?
Post by: micahadams on March 28, 2010, 07:55:12 pm
Pulled the motor on my 84 C30 w/ 454 and this box was on the driver side valve cover. In 84 there is very little engine management. The PN is worn off. It has 4 prongs on the bottom labeled A B C D.

Can't say for sure, but looks like a typical relay.  4 contacts also backs this up.  Can you take the cover off and look for a coil?  Wouldn't think it would be in that location from factory, but who knows?

I don't recognize it either. Does it have a factory pigtail going to it? Do you have anymore pix? Like with it in its place?

If it does have a pigtail; look at the color are the wires, then look up a wiring diagram. maybe.

Yea it has a pigtail, but all the wires are black, or atleast all the wire I can see. It ties into the main harness. I guess I can track it back and see if I can see any wire colors. My other thought was to get my DVOM and start checking when/if it gets voltage and what makes it get those volts.

There is only smog type electronic device and thats a plunger that opens the throttle a little when you get off the gas above 1700 rpm. Something has to control it, and there is no engine comptuter.

Weird huh?
