Title: Weight of my truck
Post by: 2500HD on March 30, 2010, 08:06:24 pm
Does anyone have an idea of what a 1974 3/4 2WD truck would weigh?

Lots of variables like small block/big block/air cond, but i think 4800lbs +-  would be a good guess.

It is a small block, no a/c pretty basic truck. Here is my problem it hasn't been inspected since Aug 08 and it is in pretty bad shape it have been sitting out at my Dad's, two guys just stopped by and wanted to buy it for $200. I think they are going to just scrap it, so if I have an idea of what it weighs I can decide if that is what I should just do with it. I really hate to scrap it but I just don't have the money to fix it and I don't need it anymore. Even if it weighs like 4,000 that would be about $360 for it. So I am not really sure what to do with it to be honest. Any thoughts??

That will not tell you the weight of the vehicle, it will give you the GVW, which is the max weight of the vehicle with passangers and cargo.
What are your plans for it? If your plans are to fix it up I would not let it go for $200,
If your looking to scrap it can you drive it to the junkyard yourself? If so it would be worth about $400-$450. If it's just a non running eyesore than $200 maybee a fair deal for everyone.

I had always wanted to totally restore it from top to bottom, but I am never going to have the time or the money to do so. Thus the reason it has sat idle since Aug 08. It had started out just as a winter unit but once I got a good 4x4 daily driver there was no reason for it. So I am really torn I do love the truck and out of all the cars & trucks I have had I have had this truck the longest since 1997. I only paid $800 for it then so if I would get $400 out of it I would think I did pretty well over the time I had it. Plus all the money I got paid for hauling other people's stuff with it. That old truck has something that no new car or truck has today, personality. I love the mechanical aspect of it, no sensor this or electronic that. The two options it had was electric wipers and a cigarette lighter. The only thing stopping me from driving it to the scrap yard is the lack of insurance and current registration, but I know it would start right up and drive to it's demise. I was trying to find some one with a car trailer that I could borrow so I would be legal but nothing yet. So I am still very up in the air on what I should do.
