Title: drip rail screws
Post by: Armor on March 31, 2010, 07:52:58 am
I'm trying to get my drip rails to seal on the cab, the problem is that the screw holes were practically striped by the PO, is there anything i can do to keep the screws tight? was thinking something like a drywall plug or emblem plug from the fenders.

any thoughts would be great, ive hit the wall on this one.

fill them with epoxy and drill them out to a smaller size

you could always just shave them. i think they look better w/o them anyway

cant you just use a shallow metal screw with bigger threads but the same head size?

If its not painted yet you can tap the screw holes flatter. This will tighten up the hole.

Vile,
Will paint stick to epoxy if you leave the drip rails off?

If you were leaving them off, I would weld the holes, grind them flat and smooth over them. I beilieve the original post here was to resolve a few screws that won't tighten down on a truck that already has paint, but that's just an assumption.

ya its already done, i like the driprails, just cant tighten them down enough as some screws are spinning, so epoxy should do the trick? ill try that this week after my rear main seal replacement. thanks a ton

I had the same problem. My truck didn't have any when I bought it. The rails I got from the junk yard had bad screws and were rusted and broke off when I tried to remove them. I used 1/4" Zip screws (The head is a 1/4") ran them in with a screw chuck and finished them off with a 1/4" wrench, I just took my time and eased into them and they tightened right up.
