Just finished my TPI install! Put a speed density corvette unit on my 1969 SB 350.
How much better fuel mileage do you think I will get? I'm also running 35" tires with 4.56 gears...
-
don't know , but how hard was it?

Better fuel mileage than what? What did you change with your set up?

it took me about three days to remove my old stuff and install this and get it running right!
That's not to mention the two days it took me to clean it and paint it... :)
I also had a stand alone harness, modified ECM chip, etc...
But overall it was a fairly easy and straight forward install.

Better than my holley 750 double pumper carb setup! I was only getting on average of 10 mpg on the hwy! :(
-
Compared to that you should at least get 15mpg or better. My 305 TBI gets 17/22

Here are a couple better pics...

Very Nice! I see you even painted the fuel Rail..

Wow, that does look sharp! 8) I love the look of a TPI. It's too bad they inherently choke power at around 4500 RPM without buying the expensive aftermarket runners. That only took you 3 days?? Man.....you'd be scared at what little I accomplish in 3 days on my truck LOL

That conversion looks great. For me to guess at the mpg's I'd need to know if your running a turbo 350 or a 700R4 (Can see the kickdown or TV cable), but I would say Captkaos is close at 15 mpg's.
Looks like you had to mix and match some parts to come up with that set up. I see you have a 85-86 base manifold with the speed density set up on it.
What did you use for a wiring harness and chip? Just trying to pick your brain a little. My truck runs a 400 motor with a Mass airflow TPI set up on it that was installed using a painless harness. For the most part my truck runs great but it is cursed with a code 33 (Mass Airflow sensor) problem, changing sensors did not help.
When I have more time to work on it I will start a new thread to look for suggestions.
Good luck with yours, it's a clean looking install.

Thanks
I actually used an '89 corvette manifold, runners, plenum, and throttle body. The corvettes (85-91) TPI manifold center bolts are the same angle as the pre-'87 type...therefore there is no need to modify the four center bolt holes.
I used a harness and ecm with a custom prom chip from Larry's Electric (very well worth the money)!!!
And I'm running a 700R4 tranny.
-
Looks good. I checked out that site and they have pretty good prices on their harnesses
-
Looks nice. I'm getting ready to do a similar set up. What tranny do you have and what did you do about the VSS? Also did you go with an in tank or in line fuel pump?
-
Thanks!
I have the factory 700R4. I am not using a vss. Don't need one unless you are using a newer 700R4...you can have the vss eliminated, depending on where you get your prom chip modified from. I just used a high flow inline fuel pump and it works fine as well (I mounted it just behind the fuel tank selector valve).

Thanks for the info. Couple more questions. Do you have any issues with the intake air temp being high with the filter behind the radiator like that? Are you able to run a one wire O2 sensor with your headers or do you run the three wire O2? Also did you upgrade your alternator or are you running the stock one?
