Title: Corp 14 interchange
Post by: GP3624 on April 09, 2010, 04:16:58 pm
I'm looking to change my 1/2 axles to 1 ton on my truck. Are the corp 14 full floaters the same in the 1 tons and 3/4 ton trucks as long as they are full floaters. Secondly, will all years of corp 14 ff's IE (73-87) interchange. If not, which years will be best for placement under an 86 K10 pickup. I am planning on 4:10 gears with 12.5 x 33 x 16 tires. Thank to all for this great site...

The 1 ton and 3/4 ton axles have different spring perches. You want a 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton to put in your 1/2 ton truck.

Also I forget what year it is but the 14 changed how the drum mounts. Check on ebay it tells you there but the reason I say that is people who make disk brake conversion kits for them only can do it to the older ones. Also if you want a stronger 14 bolt then look at were the yoke and the differential meet up the 10.5" ring gear you can take the yoke out by taking out 6-8 bolts and the yoke and pinion come out together in one piece. Wile the 9" ring gear does not have this advantage. Also there are two different types of housings one is for 4.10 and numerically lower ratios while the other is for 4.56 and higher. But you can buy a thicker 4.56 to fit in the 4.10 housing

Thanks for the info, my father always taught me that overkill is usually a good thing. This is why I am going heavier and stronger.

Sorry to intrude on your thread, but what about the axles out of a suburban. Are the perches the same?

I found a 3/4 ton corp14 FF with 4:10 gears out of a 78 pickup for 100.00. It has the bolts around the pinion gear. This is the heavier of the 2 isn't it. It's complete drum to drum. Now to locate a Dana 60 with the same gears for under a grand....

Any opinions on what a fair price for a Dana 60 front end is?  I found a d60 with 4:10 gears for 1,100.00, it will need to be gone through but it at least is a srw version.

I just bought a 14 bolt full floater 10.5" ring gear with 4.10 gears and a dana 44 3/4 ton front axle with 4.10 gears both 8 lug.  I bought the set for $250.  They came out of a 1986 3/4 ton chevy pickup and are going into my 1988 K5 Blazer.  All the spring perches and shock mounts are exactly the same.

A few years ago it was common to sell Dana 60's for around $1200. In todays market I would say that about $800 is the going rate. On the other hand it is fairly easy to buy a complete rot box 1 ton with a Dana 60 for about $1K.

Yes it is possible to buy a rot box for parts in the northern states, here in Florida, the bodies outlast the drivetrain. With the price of gas, a roundtrip to CT. from Florida turns a good buy on a rot box into an expensive excursion.
