Last week our 77 year old neighbors garage was broken into and two welders were stolen. This was at least the 4th time in 5 years this has happened the police cant do anything since its a garage and their is a ton of finger prints in there. Yesterday my wife and I were having a smoke with a friend when this pickup pulled into his driveway there was 3 people in the truck my buddy and I decided we would walk over. These punks had the gumbtion to attempt to steal 4 brake rotors (which he would of gave them if the asked since they were just scrap) while we were walking over while one of them was talking to my neighbor this is broad daylight in the sticks of MD. After we got rid of them by telling them we were calling the cops. My neighbor had tears in his eyes because I suggested that we weld rebar across his windows (its a cement block garage with 1/4 angle iron around the window openings he never thought he would have to do that) . I love this man more than my own dad. We got done around 10ish and I am still so mad I cant stop shaking I even slept on our front porch. I am at a loss what to do to help him (I am not that big but I am accurate with my bow).

That's just sad! I can't believe how many good for nothin' lowlife's are out there. I hope you can deter them in some way. So you did put rebar on the windows? Maybe a motion activated light would help. If people come in broad daylight they must have some ...you know. Either that or they're hooked on meth or something.

Yes we put the rebar up. My neighbor knows the kids father that was why he was asking how to fix a torch.
He does have a sensor light but if you go around back from his house you by pass it, they come thru our yard you will have 3 or 4 lights come on and one angry dog .

quite a country we have here now, huh? It doesn't look like it's getting any better either.

Why didnt you call the cops? They could have been the same punks, or at least friends. It is not a coincidence that it randomly had two different incidents. It would have given the cops an angle to go with.
Good job though on welding the rebar. Spread word to other neighbors!

your a good man frog..nothing p.o's me more than somebody preying on elderly.i'd love to deliver the knuckle sandwich to punks like that.

A year or so ago some lowlife "scrap collectors" came rolling up the driveway and started looking through the pile of scrap parts I had laying behind the project chevy. She came out holding the phone and the coyote-lookalike-husky and asked them what the heck they were up to. One had the balls to tell her I called them to come get the scrap! (I had plans to cash it in that weekend myself). She told them that was the "wrong answer" and to beat it before the cops get called and the dog comes out to play.
The same dog scared off a drug-addict thief a few months later. All he got was a pair of Oakleys, but he bolted when the dog woke up (she sleeps outside 24/7) and left my laptop, cell phone, and $40 and cash behind. My neighbors weren't so lucky, but at least the cops caught that scumbag.

The welders we think were stolen by his drug addicted grandson (His father is my neighbors son was killed years ago in a car accident) the cops were called on the welders and if he is stupid enough (which 1 week later doesnt seem reasonable) to pawn it he will press charges. The kid here Sunday (not really a kid over 30) father is friends with my neighbor he called him which might be worse than calling the cops.

Thanks , I hate crime but I hate when people do it to the less able to defend themselves ie old people , man on woman or anybody messing with a kid

Can i ask where this is. At least which county?

Good job Frogman.
I hate to say it but as the price of scrap metal goes up the stealing will go up too.
Right now anything metal a crackhead can get their hands on is worth about 10 cents a pound at the junkyard.
That spare axle you have sitting beside your garage could pay for the junkies next fix.

Wife just told me he had a stroke today and passed away. He was so upset about this last incident I am wondering if this lead to this. I am sad and mad right now, he wasnt feeling well yesterday but turned the ambulance away I really wish he didnt

I am finally leaving work I am still in shock I just keep replaying our last conversation last night.
I bought him a alarm system for the garage I told him I would install it last night but he said no I aint feeling good, (we told him (wife and I ) that we would take him to the hospital since he turned the ambulance away a few hours prior.) I said that is ok you stay in the house and I will do it, he said I aint worrying about the garage my grandson is in jail for 45 days.

that's a real shame. To die like that and the last issues he had to deal with. It makes you really sad and mad that there are thugs out there that will do this, not only to elderly people, but their own grandparents. So much for dying while doing the things you enjoy w/ a smile on your face and no regrets.

You hang in there, frogman...At least the old boy went knowing not everyone has gone to he^%...and knowing there's a good neighbor to look after his wife and home...doggone it! This country needs an enema! >:(

We had some drinks in his memory. I feel really bad for my wife since she was there when he passed but by the same token it makes me happy that he died with a person he loved next to him to comfort him in his passing

I have a good friend out in Nebraska that is going through the same thing. He had a stroke, his idiot wife went off the deep end, literally, and divorced him. Now he is living with his mom. He has some property out of town a bit and old farm where just about every time he goes out there something else is missing.

Sorry to hear about that frog.

keep an eye on things frog now once they hear of it they will think "he wont miss it now"
