I'm getting some aluminum wheels before too long. Two of my current wheels were messed up from the wreck way back, and I didn't know about it till now (tire shop kept saying the tires were bad), so I'd rather get some aluminum rims than buy 2 more steelies. Here's the ones I'm going to get when I get some. I like the gray inserts, i think they'll go good with the truck and the price is hard to beat. I'm going to summit later on to check em out and see if I like them in person. The backspacing will move the outer rims outward 2" which should be perfect since the rims i have now are tucked under so bad. Tell me what you think.

Honestly, I think you can do better. They're nice but they're kinda blah. I don't like the centers
-
Personally, I like the "stockers" It's all GM and a mix of different eras. I really like that look.
-
Stock, all the way... If you want aluminum go for the stock aluminum version of what you have year wise. My $.02
-
I would by a good name brand quality wheel. I own a tire shop and have seen several of these "off" brand wheels leak through the aluminum.
-
I like the stock look on these trucks. Stock ralleys or I had a set of 16" five hole 'Vette ralleys made for my '86 4X4, they were so nice someone else decided they need them more than I did.
-
I like em. Went and saw them in person yesterday. They're made by Ultra Wheels.
One of the guys on 67-72's site photo shopped them on here for me. I like them even more now. I'm not totally sure on the beadlock look, but it is growing on me. The way it's done, they look good, not all crappy. The finish is nice and they look like good quality to me. And they grey inserts almost perfectly match my paintjob. Basically the other wheel I liked is like $300 per wheel, too much for my blood. I'll just be so happy to have round true wheels for once. I may be wierd, but I just don't like steel wheels. I love aluminum.

-
That does look pretty good Kenny.
-
Look hard to clean to me....but they look nice
-
How bout these? http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelDetail.do?bp=8-165.1&yr=1991&pc=49394&counter=1&wd=16&rw=8&vid=005627
-
Don't know if you would value my opinion since I'm running Dodge 8 luggers on mine :o, but I really am a fan of that wheel you picked out. Looks really sharp.
-
I bought a set of these for my truck, I liked them because they could almost pass for a stock type of wheel used on the newer c10s but have a nicer cleaner look.
look here
http://www.ultrawheel.com/wheel_detail.cfm?brand=1&id=46
-
That does look good, and will look better on the truck becuase its hard to photoshop backspacing, but those photoshop skills are amazing.
-
I am in the same predicament. Done with my original 16.5 s, like the later model steel chrome wheels or the aluminum wheels. I also like the dodge aluminum wheels. But backspacing is always an issue, and any 8 lug wheels in the aftermarket usually look like they are for a four wheel drive. My truck is a 3/4 ton 2wd and I am happy with it, so i keep searching.
-
Maybe I'm a little weird but I have always liked the the stock white steel wheels with the factory hubcaps on these 3/4 tons. When I wear this set of 16.5s out, I'm going to replace them with 16s of the same style. For aftermarket wheels I like the old school look with a lot of backspacing so the front of the wheel center is not right at the front edge making them look all flat. That's just me...
-
Right now I have the '01 2500hd steel wheels. i hate the backspacing on em... the new wheels will move the tire out 2" which is eaxctly where I want em. I was gonna get spacers for these but buying replacement steel wheels and the spacers would cost about the same as the new aluminum wheels. I think the steel wheels look good, but I don't like em because they're steel. I love aluminum, light and way more precise than steels.
Heres how the backspacing looks now
Ill keep the same tires, and the outside rim will move outward 2" and the inside rim will move outward 1/2"
I was wanting some mickey thompson classic II's with the bigger holes, but it seems like theyre on every jeep and fixed up old truck around here. I see them way too much. I'm still looking around (I will until I buy something) but I keep liking these nomads more and more. It'll be sweet.
-
Well really, that's part of the beauty of these trucks. You can do them any way you want to and nothings wrong. Just different. I say if you like those wheels, that's really all that matters. It's your truck.;D By the way, nice grill emblem. I wish mine looked that good.

The Summit Wheels
(http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/SUM-174-6881GN.jpg)
The Chevy Wheels
(http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/ac95/projectcars1/IMG_0724.jpg)
I'm kinda Leaning towards the Chevy wheels, but I don't know for sure. They're both 16" rims. The summit wheels are 8" wide where the chevys are 6.5" wide. I'll MIGHT goto a 285/75R16 tire next time around which will probably look better on the summit wheels. Right now I have 265/75R16. The summits are wider, but the Chevys look a little classier for lack of a better term. If I keep the current size tires though, I like the chevys better. and also if I use the chevys I'll have to buy spacers too. the summits will have the correct offset, etc built in.
So what do you guys think?
Get the summits and 285/75R16 tires....
or
Get the Chevys and keep the current tire size of 265/75R16.

-
I like the Chevy wheels better.
-
I like both wheels, but I agree with beastie_3, the chevy wheels look better.
-
From what research I was able to do, I assume the aluminum Chevy wheels have the same backspacing and offset specs as the steel chevys I have now, since they both were available on the same truck. I'm going to go ahead this weekend and order my spacers. then you guys will get a chance to see what both sets of wheels will look like on a 3/4 ton with 2 inch spacers and 265/75R16 tires.
Anybody had any kinds of problems with these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370233239287&viewitem=&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2&category=42614 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370233239287&viewitem=&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2&category=42614)
I like too I'll be able to use the OE metric lugs that came with the wheels. The aftermarket dual thread lugs I bought work well and I had no problems, but you can tell the OE metrics are better...
-
See what you guys think...
I'm gonna get 2" spacers...
Right now I measured with a straight edge from the wheel opening molding, inline with the wheel straight down to the high part of the tire's sidewall. My measurement for all the wheels is 2-7/8". Thats how far the tire (at the high spot of the sidewall) is tucked under the fenders. once I get ,my spacers on, it'll only be tucked 7/8" under the fender to the tire's highspot on the sidewall. Anybody have any pics of trucks with about that same setup? I think it'll be just what I want, but any pics you guys have may help.
Red line is off the fender opening molding, vertical and straight with the wheel face. The green line is the measurment from the high spot on the tire's sidewall to the straight edge which should be the same as the fender opening. I'm gonna move em out 2"
I also wondered, isn't the front track width supposed to be wider than the rear? I raised the front 2" with only HD coils, so at the point the track front and rear is the same. How will this affect me? should I get different spacers for the front and rear?
Thanks guys! I'm done changing my mind this time... ;D either way im getting the chevy aluminum rims. I can always change em later, right.... ;D I probably won't though, I wouldn't get rid of my steel wheels, except they cost what the aluminum wheels do, or more. plus they're heavy.
-
More of the skinny track

I'm thinking about these. I saw a set on another square around town and I REALLY really liked em.
What do yall think of these. I may get em before I change my mind... ::)
-
I'd either stick with the chrome nbs wheels, or do the ar23's I got a set in the front yard 14 inch for an s10. They are ok but over the years the clear coat gets cloudy and looks bad, I stripped mine and like em, but not a huge fan of machined, I'd rather them be polished or chrome.
-
They look too much like trailer wheels, to me.
-
I like the Chevy wheels. Check out the new Silverado wheel - very cool!!
-
I didn't notice these before. I like them better. I like chrome.

Sorry to get off topic, but what did you do to remove the "bumps" on your truck’s rear step bumper that the redundant bumper braces are bolted with?
If you don’t mind me asking.
I do like those wheels by the way. ;D
-
go with the chrome ones those are called renegades and made by raceline, they'd be my first pick, 2nd is ar23.

Mines the older step bumper version; It never had the outer braces on it.
The polished, clear coated version of the renegade wheel is $70 less per wheel.... What are the advantages to paying the extra $280 for chrome? The chrome should outlast the clear coat, but I maintain my vehicle paints and such pretty well.
-
extra $280 for chrome? summit has them in chrome for like $280 and like $120 for reg. polished, but from what I seen they were polished only no clear coat, or maybe they had machined finish clear coated?

It's about $280 extra over a set of 4, sorry... it's about $65-$70 less for the polised wheels each.
I emailed raceline to ask if they are clear coated. If they are, I'll get the polished ones. Now I need to decide if I want 16's or 18's. I'm thinkin 18's but I'll need new tires. 18's would be sweet! and about a 33" tire. guess I can always sell the tires I have now... ;)
-
good idea, 16's or 15's for me lol.
-
I looked up the renegade 8's. The polished are not clear coated. So If I get them I'll get the chrome ones.
I'm going to get the 18x8.5's If I get 16's I'll just wish I had 18's later...lol
And for tires I want goodyear wrangler silent armor, 265/70R18.

I think Im going to hurry up and get the wheels quick as i can. I went by the goodyear place and the guy quoted me 50% off the silent armors. They were $255 each. 265/70R18 for $126 each ;D Screamin deal ;D
My quotes good till Aug 12, so I gotta git-r-done!
-
50% off! WOW!
-
50% off! WOW!
That's what I thought. I didnt even read the quote till I got home... Glad its in writing... ;D
By the way, Has anybody had any experiences withhttp://www.polyperformance.com/ (http://www.polyperformance.com/)?
I think I'm going to get my wheels there. The BS i want is an oddball not many places carry or can get (so they say) so I want to get it from these guys, I'd just like to know if they're any good before I give them a $G for rims.
-
Well, I ordered 2 of my wheels. Raceline "renegade 8" Chrome, 18x8.5, 4.75"BS, 0 Offset. I'll get the next 2 next week most likely.
-
2 of the wheels showed up today. I likey! I'll get some pics up later, I'm gonna hang one on there and see how I like the backspacing, and figure out which tire and what lug nuts I want....
-
I likey.... 18x8.5", 4.75"BS, 0-offset. The rim on the new wheels will be 2 inches farther out than on the old 16's

Nice looking wheels and truck.

I'm sporting the new style "no profile" tires ;D

Definitely an upgrade. Good choice.

Yesterday I bought a set of 16" wheels just like the stock ones 78 Chevyrado had on his truck. The guys at the tire shop said they would not fit my 79 C-20. Too much backspacing(?) and they would not clear the break drums. I put a wheel on last night and they cleared the break drums with some room to spare. I then put a straight edge on the back of the rim on measured 3" of clearance between the rim and the inside fender well. Am I missing something? Is there anything I need to know besides the fact that these guys did not seem too interested in selling me a set of tires? I know I have to get a set of 9/16 dual thread lug nuts. But is there anything else I should know? Thanks in advance for any help.
-
How wide are the rims and how much backspacing is there?
Did you buy the wheels from a different store?
Did the technicians SHOW you the problem, or just tell you?

They fit perfectly with 265/75R16 Tires. Some people have 285/75R16's they say they have no problems either. IMO they are tucked under about 2" too far (LOOKS WISE ONLY) , but some spacers would fix that up, and even with no spacers and 265's they have lots of clearance.
-
No I bought the wheels off of Craig's List. It was 4:00 PM Friday when I went to the tire place. The guy walks out, looks in the back of my truck and says they won't fit. Just like that. Then "Bubba" comes out and looks over in there and says the same thing. I think they just wanted to knock off and go drink beer. I would not even bother going back to those guys but my company will but me a set of Michelins? and that's where they buy from. That's like $1000.00 and they did not really seem to care. I think 78Chevyrado got me hooked up on the details though. Thanks guys.

Bubba is wrong, they fit just fine. If the company is buying them just drop the rims off and have them mounted up and put them on yourself....

I thought about that but it's 100 degrees down here right now. No. I'll let them sweat for the same price.

I had a similar problem when I lowered my truck and took the 30+ inch tires off of it. The tire dealer told me he couldn't put a smaller size on my truck due to safety...etc.....

Some companies Will only put the original tire size back on vehicles. I can't remember, but I think sams club or costco do that. They won't upsize or downsize for you, and if you have custom wheels, the stock tire has to fit or they won't touch it. It's just a liability thing. When I got my '01 2500hd wheels, the only tire size they would sell me was a 7.50-16. I went elsewhere and got my 265/75r16's
-
I think these guys aren't really worried about liability, just kind of lazy I think. I really hate letting people like that near any of my vehicles. I am currently running I think a 9.5 x 16.5. I don't want anything with less circumference. Would actually like something a little taller. Those P285's look like a little too much maybe though. I printed a tire size chart at work today but I left it on my desk.
-
I have 275's on a 8.5 inch wheel granted their 45 series, but the width if anything is curb protection. So 285's on a 9 inch wheel I would think is reasonable.

I'll measure my wheels when I get home tonight.
-
The Newer Model wheels are 16x6.5
-
Right now I'm running LT 9.5 x 16.5
-
Went and had Discount Tire do me a trial fit on my truck. Tried a 275/70R18. Looks perfect and that's what I'm going to go with. Gotta order the other 2 wheels and then its on. I think they look Just right. They're 33.2" high. I'll have to roll in the front-most part of the wheel lip 1/2"x1/2". when you turn the wheels, the tire JUST clears... It doesn't hit is about all you can say. Very acceptable, so Ill have it done before I go to buy the tires and it wont be noticeable from a straight on to the side view of the truck.. I'm as in love as I can be with a tire and wheel. ;D

X2
Love the white letters out...
-
I can't wait to get em. Next week I'll order the other 2 wheels, and then it'll take about 3 weeks to save for the tires... I'm glad they fit just like I wanted. I'm tired of looking at tire dimensions and all the planning, I did plan it all right so it's totally worth the effort. I love when a plan comes together!
So hopefully in a month it'll all be done, then I can do the rear disc brake setup.
All I have to do to prepare is Paint the Brakes, and roll back the fender lip where the red square is, otherwise the tires fit everywhere by more than 1"
-
Sweet looking!
-
I got the notch out of the front of the fenders done, have bought the other 2 wheels, and got my lug nuts and locks together, So I'm All set except for tires... ;)
I've just got to get a sets of tires for 2 cars that really need them first before I get mine though, so it will be a bit longer. :'(
-
looks great! :)
-
Just had to type something... I'm getting impatient. >:( I want my tires! I had to put a good little bit of work (read $$$) into somebody's car and they need a set of tires now, so hopefully in a month I can get mine. Figured one of ya would be wondering what happened. They're coming some day soon.
Why people let their cars slide like this I'll never know, it's only the second largest investment most people ever make. ???
-
I was wondering why you haven't posted pics. Figured you just forgot or hadn't had time.
-
I was wondering why you haven't posted pics. Figured you just forgot or hadn't had time.
You know me, as soon as I get em there will probably be 100 pics of it on all kinds of websites but yall get to see first! ;D
-
Got the first set of tires bought. Guess I'll put some other tire reviews while I'm here... ;D
This car just got belts, oil change, trans flush, brakes, wheel bearings, flushed brake lines, wipers, light bulbs misc, and new tires. It had 4 different tires on it before and they sounded like all the wheel bearings were going out. pulled left and right... dang.
Falken Ziex S/TZ-04 in 31x10.50R15's I got them at Discount Tire. They cut me some deals because I'm going to buy a lot of tires from them in the near future. They ride Really quiet and smooth up to 90MPH that I know of. I like em a lot so far We'll just have to wait and see how they do in rain. I think They'll do fine. Well now the kiddies will be safe. :)
I got these for right at $500 with the free replacement certificates included. and they have a 50k warranty.

Well I got the tires bought for the Focus yesterday. Looks like mines up next! Bout time :)
-
Geesh, you had to get 2 sets BEFORE the truck.... You are a good man!
-
That's for sure!
-
Thanks fellas, the tire recipients told me that too, they know how much I want my tires. They're worth it the wait though. :)
I'd put a pic up of the focus tires, but they're blackwall and look just like every other BSW tire... :D
I got yokohama YK520's for the focus. 205/50R16 with a 60k warranty. They also ride quiet and smooth up to 90MPH...lol
I think the trucks rating may only be upto 80MPH though, as I don't like going 90 in it. ;D
-
Still waiting on tires... it's gonna happen though... ;)
Here's where I trimmed the fenders to clear the new tires. This is the front end of the drivers fender. just a little nip and you can't see it from the side of the truck. I may have to dab paint on the edges from time to time but it's no big deal.

Are you ordering 285/75R16 tires for your wheels? I'm curious as to how wide the tire will end up being when it is mounted.I'm on the verge of ordering some 16X8 or 16X10 american racing baja's for my 76 3/4 ton, and I want to see how the tire will fill the front and rear wheel wells.
-
No I'm putting 18" wheels on mine.
HEres a pic of another one with 16's and 285/75R16s

Sweet! Are you gonna go half and half? Two old rims and two new rims? lol

For today only, but not on the road.... ;D you know I had to see how they looked ;)
I have the old 265/75R16's on the drivers side and the 275/70R18s on the passenger side... Look at that lean. the new tires are a bit wider and they're 2" taller.

onto the good stuff. The trucks dirty and i haven't taken the blue stuff off the tires yet, I'm gonna leave it until they put em on for good.

I like em, if i keep staring at this thing I may have the other 2 tires in 2 weeks. Its amazing the difference.

That's awesome Kenny. Truly a thing of beauty. And about time already :D

Gonna get the other 2 on wednesday. About time. I think I bought the rims in June? only 5 months... ::)
I'm hoping it improves, the main thing is having round wheels, which I do now and some of the non-cheapy tires. I wonder if the extra track width will make it more stable? the track will be 4" wider overall than what i have now. We'll see after I get the alignment done.
-
It will definetely be more stable with 4 inches more of track width.

Absolutely. I have put a more outboard offset and wider wheel on several vehicles I have had, and it's a night and day difference. I think you're gonna love it. If you haven't already, consider the 2" wheel spacers in the back to even out the front and rear track width.
That wheel and tire combo look awesome. Was that little bit of trimming you did in the front going to be enough?

That's good to know, I'm excited to get to try it out with it's extra track width!
Spacers: I won't need them, I have a 2wd, and the way I lifted it, it brought the fronts in a bit, so somehow I've ended up with the track being the same front and back... I had also wondered if this would make it drive funny, having the same track front and back?
Thanks for the compliments!
I think what I trimmed will be enough, but I won't know for sure until I go back in the woods with it to test em out. ;D The way I trimmed the front of the front openings, while turning there's about 3/4" of clearance. it's the same in the rear of the front openings but I didnt have to trim that at all. So I'll just have t find out what happens when making it articulate.

Got sunny today so here's the finished product

Thought you should have this on here.

Thanks guys! I think I've gotten used to em and they're still cool ;) Much much smoother now. The truck still rides a bit harsh (which I like) but those dang out of round tires arent going to shake the thing apart now... ;D People always checked my truck out but a whole lot more of em come up to talk to me about it. Pretty cool!

Planning to run a similar setup on my burban, could use a little help. What offset or backspacing did you end up with on the rims? and what your center of hub to fender lip measurements? Planning a 275 65 18 on either 8.5 or 9" wide. Its a little shorter, but still taller than factory.

i like them

Wheel Specs are:
18x8.5", 4.75"BS, 0-offset.
Center of hub to bottom of fender lip measurement is aprrox. 20" (Front Left Fender)
I'd get the 8.5 wide wheel. with my 275's on 8.5" wheels the tread isn't much wider than the rim. maybe 1" split from front to back. tire guys had a heck of a time mounting them... i almost felt bad for them... ;)
And I've never had a problem with the tires scrubbing. Only had to nip a bit off the front fender because it was almost touching otherwise. I cut the metal off rather than roll it back because if i has rolled it back it would have blocked one of the water drains. Thats the old 265/75R16 tires in the pic BTW.
