I am buying a book for my 73 online and waiting for it to arrive. anyone have the timing specs handy, 73 C20, 454. need timing and dwell for the points. thanks in advance.
-
Sorry can't help. Points, though--whew! I'd have to change to HEI right away if that were mine. I just don't have time for all of the maintenance.
-
My Haynes manual tells me dwell for a V-8 is 29-31 degrees, timing it says to see the Vehicle emissions control information sticker. Mine has been unreadable for years. IIRC, my smallblock called for 4 deg. BTDC. That's by sometimes faulty memory. (currently running about 12 deg btdc)
-
cool, thanks for the info.
-
Definitely ditch the points.
Here's your factory specs with auto trans 29° - 31° dwell. Point gap .016" (used) .019" (new) 10°BTDC
-
yea, no question on getting HEI. I need to get it running well, for drivability. New truck for me, so taking care of the small stuff. Not new to GM stuff, just this one was a screamin deal. thanks again. its green, ratty, but a big block 3/4 ton, no rust generally ok vehicle that Ive named "the hulk". In CA, pre-75 are key years, as they do not require smog certs anymore. so, has a few good things going for it.

Here's a reallly good deal http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-BBC-CHEVY-CLEAR-CAP-65K-HEI-DISTRIBUTOR-6500-CL_W0QQitemZ330417792997QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4cee6f67e5

I bought some other stuff from that ebay company without any problems.
-
That's too cheap to believe! Forget tuning up with a new cap and rotor--just buy a new distributor every 30,000 miles!
-
I've actually used a few and bought 2 extra's to keep in stock no joke.
-
Dang. I want one. one of those will be mine! heck it's only $20 cheaper than a cap and rotor kit.... wow!
