well my AC compressor finally crapped out after 32 years of use and an r-134 conversion 3 years ago. so my question is, when I fix it, should i just get another compressor like i have now (the big long one 1978 model) or would it be worthwhile to get a setup for a newer model like my my 87 had? would it save me some mileage or is it even worth the bother of new brackets, hoses, etc...
Right now I'm thinking to just replace what I have with the same thing. I need to get it fixed because I get BETTER mileage on the highway with the windows up and the ac on NORM, than using the 70mph AC. Plus the window tint don't keep the sun out when its rolled down.. ;D

Just get another A6. If it puked though, make sure you replace the acuumulator and orifice tube. Flush everything else out.

I find myself in the same place, I bought my truck over the winter and I see it has a newer reman compressor and it wouldn't kick on so I had it filled and it was ice cold for a week or two, I popped the hood the other day to see green freon everywhere. Now I am wondering if I should go ahead and do a serpentine swap or put another reman compressor on it. I know the serpentine swap uses the late model compressor. I wonder if it will blow as cold or colder with the later compressor? The truck has already been converted to 134.

I assume the leak is at the compressor? I always thought the smaller compressor moved more fluid with less power. So it should be the better choice.

The smaller compressors are cheaper than the old A6's new. A new A-6 is around $400.00 but a remanned one is only around $130.00 at O'Reillys. Just replaced my old A-6 with a reman, replaced the suction and discharge hoses, replaced the dryer, pressure switch and orifice tube and had to have a new liquid line made up at a local shop, plus my 134a for under $400.00. Now I'm cruisin' cool!

A question my 94 after the wife wrecked it about in 04 well we got a 91 font clip and the condenser won't mate up to the hoses do to it being r12 so its been open since the crash and I want to get it going again what's the best way and cheapest way to do it ex. Would I flush the parts and put a new orifice tube in and replace the condenser but I'm thinking what about parts going bad. Another thing I was thinking would it be better to get them from the yard from a closed system

The acuumulator has a desicant bag (silica gel) that absorbs moisture. Like that little package in your beef jerky that says do not eat. That needs to be replaced if the system has been left open. Everything else can be flushed and vacuumed.

Hey vile how far is the orifice tube supposed to be in the condenser

The orifice tube isn't in the condenser. If it is you're in trouble! It's in the line going to the evaporator. You can see slightly after the nut dimples in the pipe.

In 91 it was moved to the condencer this is for the 94

I figured it out, I'm going to get the smaller 80's type compressor, and move it to the passenger side. I'll use this to move it over there

Irish you should just start another thread. You're asking about a 94 what? Your orifice tube, PAG oil, refrigerant charge etc can all be answered if you put all of the vehicle specific info. But again start another thread in General discussion

I'm paying for convinence. Plus around here the junkyards kinda gouge ya on that stuff. They'll only sell the whole setup including accessories (its a yard you cant walk around in) and they want like $550 for it... A few months ago, I bought a new window regulator for the focus and the one from the ford dealer cost literally $40 less than the used one in the junkyard... crazy.

Believe it or not, I had a guy offer to give me all the brackets and stuff for free off the front of a burb but I turned it down cause I don't want to redo my AC again. Have you tried Craig's List?

pretty much any 88-95 R/V or C/K truck system will work. Parts trucks are usually cheap investments but if you've got the coin get the new system.
