Title: swapping 84+ column into an 82
Post by: Texcuda on April 24, 2010, 03:21:56 am
Ok, so I have an 82 with tilt and dash mounted delay wipers. Truck had cruise but I have removed all vestiges of the cruise sans the wiper mounted switch. I want a 84 newer column with column mounted wipers. I'm tired of reaching down to mess with the wipers. What all do I need to convert it. I want factory parts, NO universal stuff. Do I need a complete column or can I simply buy the newer turn signal switch with delay wiper controls and wiper control module? If so, what wiring will need to be done. What about the wiper motors? Any changes from 82 to later? Throw all the info you have at me b/c I am going to do this and can even make a write up out of it. Thanks

hey there,
unfortunately i do not have an answer to your question but i just want to say if you figure it out you should definately do a write up on it because i have a 76 and i would love to have the column switch for the wipers.

The easiest solution is to get a 83-up column and then hook everything up.
Otherwise you would have to change the 82 guts to the 83-up stuff.

You can pickup a column already rebuilt from http://www.gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com/

is the wiring plug and play? As far as swapping guts, thats no biggie. My column is in surprisingly great shape, no slop etc. Thanks
