Title: panel bond on rockers?
Post by: 2502 on April 25, 2010, 01:25:38 pm
has anyone on here used panel bond to do their rockers?

i don't weld, and i'm trying to take the time to learn but i've read that the panel bond is less time consuming and easier. suggestions?

btw, i found a small hole in my rocker on my passenger side. so i'm glad i bought rockers last year just in case. i'm still aggravated.

I've not used it but everyone that has seems to love it.  You should be able to do rockers no problem.

i read different things, some said rockers were ok, others no. so i wanna be sure. i'd rather have it welded, but at this rate i'll never learn to weld good enuff to et things moving in the pace that i want. and i'm seriously done letting other people work on it. too many parts are missin now and i am basically starting from scratch.

I just did a quick search and the only mention of caution on rockers was for unibody vehicles.  I only searched a few sites though.  If you're really worried about the strength you can make a sleeve or backer panel to reinforce the seam.

I wouldn't. When you replace the rockers you usually end up having to replace part of the floor and inner rocker and cab corner etc... In order to get good body lines you have to clamp and manipulate the panels. Welding, shifting, tweaking etc to get the desired finish. I think panel bond is great for replacing skins but I wouldn't for something like that.
