Does anyone else have a hard time starting(starter turning slow) w/ 15 degrees initial timing?
-
Wouldn't think so but then again what is your compression? Are you running headers?
-
C/R is 8.5 and yea i have some thorley tri y's
Im going to put in a 2nd battery and see if that helps(came factory w/ 2 batteries)
-
take your batteries and starter in and get them tested for free before you start dumping money
-
does it crank any faster if you move it to 4*?? If not
Make sure all the conections are clean, the battery is charged, grounds are good. if it still cranks slow I'd say the starter is junk. bushing worn out, armature is rubbing on the Field windings.
-
Yea it cranks much better with less timing.
-
something ain't right it shouldn't need that much timimg. timing chain worn, weights in the dist. rusty?
Balancer could be slipping on the rubber band.
-
The HEI will only centrifical advance 20 degrees. So to get 35 total I need 15 initial. Motor is brand new w/ a brand new SFI balander
Adding the 2nd battery helped big time. It will crank much better now
-
what are your battery cables like?
good grounds? perosnally i run a dedicated ground form the engine block to battery
a stock OEM starter should roll a 8:1 engine over no problem
-
I never use anything but a good gear reduction starter anymore.
-
i'm using a smaller GM gear reduction starter, and it turns over my 10.5 to 1 compression 468 with ease, and i even have the distributor locked out, so it starts at 36 degrees timing.
