Hi guys & gals - it's been a while but due to other commitments my truck has been on the back burner  :'(

I'm just in the process of getting things together and ready for when (if) it eventually comes out the paint shop.

Can anyone tell me (in Kgs) how heavy a 454 engine weighs with all ancillarys and how much the g/box weighs?

I'm wondering if I can hang it from my garage roof beams or do I get an engine stand!!

454 weighs roughly 700lbs
Depending on the trans most fall around 150lbs.

Hey Bitzer, it's been a while.  Hope all is good across the big pond.
Your garage roof beams should be fine to support the weight, but, if you are unsure, take some 4x4's (that's what we call them in the States--because they are 4 inches by 4 inches and you can get them 6 feet long, 8 feet long, 10 feet long, or 12 feet long. 
What I'm gettin at is simply take some boards and place them vertically up to the roofbeams for extra support. You can get one to go horizonatally up against the existing beams too if you desire.  With that kind of support, you will have no problem.  Here in the states, all that would cost under $25.00.

Cheers guys, you know what- I'm really not liking things here in the UK but thankful I have a job still!!
I'm sure life is slower and more fun there  :)

SgtDel - thats a dang fine call!! I'm guessing my roof beams would take the weight but it's quite a span and rather not risk it. A couple of vertical 4x4's three foot in from the edge would add sufficient bracing.

The engine has been "refreshed", de-coked with new big end shells etc but need to do a few things to it before the truck comes back from the body shop and didn't fancy kneeling all the time or the cost of a big engine stand!

once again, thanks for all the help and I'll update when I'm further into it again!

Oh - one more question!! what sort of BHP would I be getting. The guy that re-built it reckons 500+ on a standard build, would that seem feasable?

BHP=Break Horse power yea he would be about right
