Title: Is a 78 cab the same as a 74 cab ?
Post by: bake74 on May 01, 2010, 01:12:16 am
I have a 74 Chevy 1/2 ton step side 4WD truck and the cab from rocker to rocker has serious rust.  I found a 78 step side 4WD cab with no rust.  Instead of spending all the man hours to weld in all new panels, I was going to swap out cabs but have not got a straight answer on if they are the same cabs.  Anybody out there knows if they are the same.  Thanks.

They are very close to the same. The cabs will swap and be basically a direct bolt in. There may be some minor differences such as door panels, and possibly wiring harness differences, but I don't think there will be anything that can't be easily overcome. I put an 85 cab on a 76 chassis, and it was a direct bolt on. All I had to do was use the 85 engine to cab harness.

Thanks for the help, I was wondering if the hood and fenders would work off my 74, and I hope they will.

The hood and fenders should bolt up no problem.

The only possible differences would be the washer wiper switch and headlight switch size/location.  Otherwise they are identical.
