1980 3/4T Chevrolet. I'm trying to determine which model Sanden ac compressor is best suited as a replacement for GM's R4. The 508 pushes 33,000 BTU's@ 4000 rpms .... and the 510 is 38,400 BtU's @ 4000 rpms. I can't find specs for the R4. Anyone using either of these Sanden compressors, in their truck?
Appreciate all input. Thanks

I wouldn't go by their BTU ratings for making a purchasing decision as there are too many variables. Why do you want to change compressors anyway?

Reason for changing, .... the Sanden 508, installed by truck's previous owner, is seized internally, not the clutch. It was in that condition when I purchased the truck. So with summer arriving, time to get ac running. The R4 doesn't seem to have a good durability reputation, so acquiring the proper Sanden, is my solution. Planning on making new hoses, and replacing the other "normal" componants. I've already flushed and pressure checked the evaporator. What other factors would you use to determine correct compressor applicaction? It seems to me, if I can match the pumping capacity of oem R4 with a Sanden, ...then I should be good to go. What am I missing?

Anyone will do just fine as far as displacement goes. If it's a CCOT system you won't have a problem with that compressor. Just make sure you have good air flow across the condenser. Here's a nice polished one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFF-4515NBDP/?rtype=10
