I think my starter went out today I have a stock GM style starter and with the headers it is a tight fit and the wires are very close.
Will a mini starter give me some more room.
-
yes
-
So,who makes a good mini starter?
What do you all think about the Jegs and summit brands
-
summit has the one I used on my big block CVS I think. summit branded stuff is good too.

i have ran both summit and jegs... same thing different badging..
goign from a OEM thst sucks ~200-300A and weighte ~45lb to a mini starger then take 80A and weighs 15 is nice..
i lost one out os 3 i had... it was on a truck one of the wire boots came out and water got in there over then winter and fried it... granted it been on there for 7 years.

I would also suggest getting a heat shield. Aluminum or stainless to keep the heat away from the starter
-
There is also a fabric heatshield that wraps around the starter. It has velcro to hold it in place, it works but I used a large hose clamp to keep it in place, worked great.
-
I thought about using some header rap around the header under the starter
-
I've had good luck with the Tilton mini starter in my Camaro. It definitely increases the header clearance.

don't use header wrap. it retains mosture and what you put it on RUSTS!
