Ok, so last year I found a decent set of Burb doors that I want to hang on my 86. The problem is, that they sat outside for, well... a year. So even though the bottoms are still perfect, and the rest of the shell is quite intact, there are some pretty big surface rust spots on the outter skin, and some on the edge where the door closes against the B pillar. This will be my FIRST attempt at body work. I removed the scale and about 1/2" of paint around the all of the spots with a wire wheel on my drill until it was shiny. I also lightly sanded the whole door with 180 to roughen the surface, as I want to primer the whole door. I bought a can of bondo, some 80 and 180 grit paper, and a can of "scratch filler" primer.
Can someone guide me? I want to use something like chassis saver to keep it from spreading, but have NO idea what I am doing as far as preparation is concerned. I have been a woodworker all my life so sanding/shaping is no real problem, but I want to inhibit the rust from coming back as much as possible.

Take it down to bare metal, smooth with a glaze putty, sand, prime and paint afaik. Using chassis saver is not the way to go. On a frame yes, but on outer panels no. It will not give you a smooth paint finish.
