Title: Headlight restore
Post by: beastie_3 on June 06, 2010, 07:17:39 pm
Finally got around to cleaning up my headlights. Thought I would share and possibly encourage anyone to get it done. I used 1500 and then 2000 grit wet sandpaper and then finished up with Meguiar's PlastX. They have a kit, but it was cheaper to buy just the bottle, sandpaper and foam pad separately. I do wish that I had bought the rotary pad though...

Did this to a 46 foot diesel pusher motor home last week. Some mouth breather had painted the front of it, then peeled the tape off and clear coated over the head lights. DOH  ::)
So I sanded them with 400 dry first, then 600, then, 800, then 1200, then 1500 wet. Then I used 3Ms headlight compound. it did OK. Then I used 3M micro finishing compound. That worked allot better.

I saw the 3M kit, was thinking about getting it. Turned out good enough for the mean time. End of summer I'll probably do it again.

Snap on makes a nice kit with a air tool, wheels, and all the crap to go with it. Like $130.00

I ended up using my 3' DA with the grits I mentioned above. Then I tried buffing them with the pad from the kit and the juice they send. The Micro Finishing compound worked way better.
