Title: steering wheel problem

i have a 79 c-10 stepside and im having a problem when the truck is running the steering wheel turns the wheels just like it should but when the truck is off the steering wheel just spins whitout turning the wheels dont know whats happening any advise thanks in advance ???

Don't drive your truck until you fix it.  Have someone turn the wheel with the truck off and watch the steering shaft under the hood and you should see where you're losing motion.  If its not there keep looking around until you find it while they turn the wheel back and forth.

Yeah, not good! Is  it an aftermarket wheel?
