Has anyone not used an aftermarket sway bar kit, but rather built their own or retro'd a bar for the rear of there truck? I know several of you have used Addco kits, but I have no money and want to be more creative ;D. I am in the middle of installing a stock 1 1/8" front sway bar from a 85 K5 on the back of my Burb. Thanks in advance.

So far Ive gotten all the stock stuff taken apart and blasted and painted. I still need to order poly bushings and fab a cross member to bolt from mounts to frame rails. I'm half done with the spring plate brackets. Looks sporty enough. More pics to come.

Why does every rear sway bar hang under the axle? That seems like the worst place to put it. It decreases ground clearance which means its going to get hit on things. I'm mounting mine above the axle its cool to be different.

Finished! Finally. First I want to make a correction to my previous post, its a 1 1/4" sway bar. I'm very much impressed at how much it helped. Now almost all of the roll is from the tire sidewall flexing, so I'm happy. This should bring much more peace of mind when toeing the overloaded trailers this truck will see.

First 2 are the spring plates i made third is the cross member.
Money well invested if you ask me.
Cost breakdown:
$30 junkyard sway bar and spring plates
$20 grade 8 hardware
$25 poly bushings
total= 75 bucks= 13hrs labor
Only took so long because i had to do everything except the cross member at least twice since it was a prototype thing.

never thought about turning the bar around that away before... I wonder if it will take less fab work to make the OBS rear sway bar fit.... guess I will be playing around with that too this weekend
