My 86 parts truck I got running today has a 700R4 trans in it. Before I take apart the truck I would like to see if the trans is any good. Trouble is the PO put a small block with a 2 bbl with no hook up for the TV cable and it is just laying under there not hooked to anything. Would driving it and manually shift through the gears hurt anything or does it need to be hooked to accurately check it out? Thanks in advance, I am not an automatic transmission kind of guy at all but am going to set my 16 year old up with one soon.

Yes, drive oil is directly utilized by the TV valve. It will actually very quickly wreck a 700R4 without it hooked up.

Thanks Vile, I may have an old 2 to 4 barrel carb adapter from my stock car days to try and hook it up to test it out.

Just connect it or use a zip tie to test it.
