Is it common for the hood to rust out, specifically in the front face of it (vertical part that meets the radiator support)? Mine is getting some cancer at each end, mainly on the backside.

i know iv seen a lot of hoods like that

fairly common for northern trucks that I know. I have 2 here from the north and both are rusted.

Hopefully I can find a good used hood when I start looking. It is fine for now from the outside. I was just curious. I guess water can get in between the layers of metal. Thanks for the info.

Had 1 rust out completly on mine.Ended up scrapping it.Shame it was a NOS hood at 1 time as i was buckling it in 1/2 the factory flat black primer was popping up thru the paint.I remember seein JC whitney use to sell them front hood caps to replace your rusted one.I tried to order 1 and they were having problems with them and cancelled my order.Good thing as i got my cowl hood...
thanks

mine on my 78 was garaged its whole life and only had 93k on it when i got it and while nothing on the whole truck had rust, only the front edge of the hood had 3 or 4 small bubbles under the paint where it has rusted through. seems very common to me.
