Title: lifting a 2wd
Post by: markdilljr on June 22, 2010, 02:07:11 pm
I got an 84 C10 long bed 1/2 ton and I want to lift the truck alittle, I had to swap rear ends and when I did the new leafs were longer and lifted the rear about 2 inches, I have a broke coil so I need to get new ones but cant find anyone selling lifted ones for my truck. Any ideas ?

You can put 1 Ton springs in there to lift it.

Anytime you lift something the ride is going to change.

I just found a pair of 2 inch lifted springs for the half ton, there was a company making the 2wd lift but stoped making them about 2-3 years ago and I found a guy on craigslist that had the whole 2wd lift kit, I bought the coil springs for $30 thats cheap for the springs right or did I over pay?

Good price, I will say though theres definetely potential for alignment problems when lifting that much with a coil. I woulda looked for a lift spindle maybe?

no one makes any lift products for the 2wd anymore, 2 inch on a coil isnt much. A camber- caster adjust should do fine, maybe a shim or two but it wont be that bad

Fabtech used to make lift spindles, there is another thread on 2wd lift if you search for it.

Lifted mine with 1T coils too.  worked fine and had no alignment problems.

How much lift does that give you? While I kinda like the rakish stance my '86 has right now, I like a level truck even better.

when the springs were new the lift was almost 3" but it settled to about 1" or 1 1/2" after almost a year. still nat a bad way for a cheap easy lift. i did buy the springs new though.

Before the lift, old spring vs new lifted spring

Thank You, now I have to remove a leaf or two for a smoother ride which will lower the rear which means I will have add a 2 inch block to even it out. Its slow going but atleast its coming along.

not sure about upper a-arm I can measure if you need me to, with the new springs the ride is very rough when I go over a speed bump ( even at 3 mph ) the front end jumps over it, every little bump feels like your hitting big rocks at 60 mph. If I cant find another option on lifting with a better ride ( I cant take it offroad like this ) I am thinking of lowering it. I like the look of Viles black one that he made into a short bed

check the following
distance between compression bump stop(dont think your on it because fo the heaverir springs you put in them)
distance between droop bump stop. could explain rough ride going over bumps
shocks do/can they travel farther then the shock mounts at full droop . ideally .5-1" farther
