Title: 12v to my transfercase...WHY?????
Post by: dueprocess on June 25, 2010, 07:00:55 am
???  I have this 12v power source going to my transfercase and don't know why. I do not have a 4WD light. The wire is plugged in a open spot in fuse box along with another wire, then comes down to where you see it going to the top part of the transfercase linkage.
The truck is 78 K10, 350sbc(mildly built),NP203,turbo350..... Any reason why this set-up would need a 12v supply to the location supplied?

It's for your 4wd indicator lamp. If it's not there then someone swapped out your cluster.

or, the bulb is blown and you'd never know that the light was there thru the dark plastic...

That will work! I figure the cluster was swapped out. Replaced all the bulbs in it and there is no 4wd indicator at all.

That particular lamp is a 2-wire pigtail that screws into the cluster, not a "socket" unit like the rest of the cluster bulbs. The wire colors are Pink/Black and Black IIRC. It's probably lying around in there somewhere...
