Hey all, first off, Thanks for a dedicated site not only to Loyal Chev owners but to strict years.
Heres my query, im lookin at pickin up a 78 pickup, ive looked and looked at a few different models and compared with factory options and vins and all that cool original model stuff. Im stuck at the mirrors!! I have found 2 different styles, the 3 bolt with the long arms down , still vertical mirror, then the other is the 4" nub sticking out supporting the very short arm into the mirror, are these factory options? some parts say OEM some not? The heavy half c10 has the lower profile set, and a 1500 manual same hass big ones, im confused any help??
-
I'm confused too. Are you asking what mirrors were options for a 78?
-
haha sorry for that, yes that is the question. Is this a factory option...if so what models its on.the bigger ones require 2 holes to be drilled 12 inches down from the window. i will post a photo.
-
it would make sense to me that the heavy half (cordova brown) would have the bigger 3/4 ton mirrors, but its trhe other way around. Now that pics are up, these are the 2 boys for sale im lookin at, both 78, Brown is 350 w/ th350, auto , heavy half, factory bucket seats (more questions bout those) dailey driver, burns oil..And the other is 78 too, 1500, standard, big mirrors, and benchseats. also daily driver. ANy input would be great as it will be my first truck and wont be able to do it withoutthis community

this is my 79 Big 10, it has yet smaller mirrors stock. I took em off and put ones like your second pic on it.

You can't beat the factory buckets.
I believe they're getting quite rare.

For what it's worth my '79 Big 10 step-side has the same mirrors as SgtDel's "now" photo, and I believe they are stock, and so did my '79 Chevy Sport parts truck. Not a '78, but I think close enough in model years to use as a reference.

The second pic you posted, someone put the mirror on in the wrong spot. It's way too far forward.

Holy Smokes VILLE with the eye, that should get some notice of the day i think. i can see it now you point it out, the cordova brown has factory bucket, true dual and 350 i believe, it was a 6 hr round trip and the bed truck let out on the way.
