Title: 355 problem
Post by: greatdane on June 29, 2010, 07:30:37 pm
I am faced with this problem! I order a 355 crate engine from Dominator Engines. He told me 3 weeks when I bought it! As of today it has been 12 weeks since my check cleared! I am losing patience with him! Does this kind of thing happen often with engine builders or am I getting screwed? He is an Ebay guy but I ordered over the phone not on Ebay! He promised it by the end of the month but I have herd that before! I have been told next week several times! Today I asked is it ready and I got back by the end of the week! That would be OK if he hadn't promised it by the end of the month or sooner! Do you think it is fair for me to ask for my cash or my engine by the end of the week or else??? I have an email ready for him with that as my topic! What do you guys think?

I would go somewhere else. There is no reason that this is taking so long. Even the original 3 weeks is pretty crazy. I would contact your bank to see if you have any fraud/consumer protection with them.

I've never heard of them. What did he charge you? I hope you don't get screwed over

Although I can't help with your situation I can say that I haven't had the best of luck buying from Ebay engine sellers. I bought a turn key 350 from Phoenix Engine Rebuilders and with only 3000 miles on it, it burns oil pretty bad.  It was said to dyno at 335 horsepower, but when I had it at the dyno I only put down 220 to the wheels, with a brand new built 700R4 behind it. I'm going to be rebuilding it shortly, but as far as I'm concerned no quality parts were used in it. I know it is partially my fault for not doing my research as I've seen some bad reviews by now. I hope you fair better off than me!

This isn't a space ship it's a small block chevy! Now he is offering free parts to make up for the delay! If I dont have a engine by Friday I will ask for a full refund! Were can you get a crate engine that is dependable? I hope to report good news by the end of the week!

If I were you I would look into GM Performance crate engines, Summit Racing can be a good source too, or you could also look for a reputable engine builder in your town.

^LOL.

Yeah, atleast he's talking to you.  One time I ordered a trans and after they got my money they ducked and dodged me like I had done something wrong.  I got the trans, but then they kept my core and wouldn't refund the money....I've been asking for the last 4 years.  Hopefully your builder does the right thing and gives you a good motor.

Awesome! Good luck man.  What trans and stall you got going behind it?

always use credit card.  then send your check tot he credit card company.
Credit card companies have built in insurance that you will get whay you pay for or they will yank the business's authority to use Visa or MC.
File a claim with the BBB.
Could always file a warrant in debt to cover all costs if good are not delivered as promised.

glad you'll soon get it.

You might want some more gear to compliment the combo.  I think the right set of gears makes a huge difference in how it performs on the street.

I would highly advise against 2.73 gears if you're driving around town. 3.73 is what I have in my truck and I love them, that is with a 700R4, 2400 stall and an eaton locker in the rear. 2.73's were WAYY to sluggish for me, couldn't even power brake it.

The plan is for 3.73s but I am cashed out for now! I will get different gears soon after I get it running. I am not sure if they are 2.73 or not can you tell by the vin#?

with 2.73 and an OD trans, you could break 200mph top end, but, it would take 3 days to get there.

Very nice looking motor.  Congrats on getting this resolved.

Question, is the paint inside the head exhaust ports along with the water pump and fuel pump?  Are all the exposed threads also painted?

Don't really matter, maybe I waist way too much time masking stuff off.  Looking at the pictures makes me drool. and want to do another detail on mine.

Again, looks nice. ;D

I guess that would explain why my 700R4 would never go into over drive when i had my 2.73's.
