Title: changing driver side front axle shaft

Newbie here..Need help in getting axle shaft out after removing the spindle. Dont understand the instructions from Chilton book.

Like Irish posted, I just did the passenger side. It really wasnt difficult. The frustrating part was getting the races out. Let us know if you have any other questions besides what was posted. Get the correct tools! That will save you so much frustration. I bought the spindle nut socket $12 (you need that) and rented ball joint press because I replaced mine.

I have removed the spindle and backing plate. The ball joints are hitting the knuckle when trying to pull the axle out. What I am doing wrong to get the axle to come out??

What do you mean the ball joints are hitting the knuckle? The ball joints attach the knuckle to the axle tube. Can you get pics? Is it a D44 or 10 bolt? It should just slide right out when the knuckle is pointing straight.

If your wheels are straight then the shaft will slide right out. If your wheels aren't straight then the shaft will not come out
