Had to inspect this rig and mount a new tire on it yesterday! The guys wife told me that her husband said doing body work was just like sheet rock mud, and tape!! ::)
Using aluminum roof flashing, 4 or 5 rivets, strips of fiberglass cloth, and body filler. Instead of sheet rock, sheet rock screws, joint compound, and tape!

Oh yeah I failed it miserably. Pitnam arm, idler arm, front brakes, rear brakes were all wasted, and one tire was bald even after I had changed the one that was almost showing air! :o

that aint the best way to do it, not to mention this is 73-87 trucks and that's a newer body style 88-98 truck.
The only real way and best way is to cut it out, remove the rust completely and then weld in new metal. That will last for awhile, until the metal under it rusts out to the point the rivets fall out and then it's rusted above the patch. That's if it doesn't crack first and show the edges or the tin.

yea it aint the best of jobs that's for sure. it's redneck style for sure, it's what alot of ppl do around here and I always got stuck fixing junk like that LOL.
Being able to see air in the tires, that sucks,, been there done that too.
I didn't pay attention to him saying he had to inspect it lol. I bet they weren't happy, but that's what happens when you don't fix stuff, or at least fix it right.

as a body man that restores vehicle for a living,all i can say is its just as easy to buy a used door or if you have the time[money] buy a new skin

I know i've seen my fair share of crazy stuff doing body work..lol. It amazing what people will do with chicken coop wire, newspaper and expanding household foam too! hahaha

I wouldn't let him work on sheetrock repairs either.

Ive had a few rigs with spray foam, and tiger hair rockers / quarter panels in my days!!!! ::)

foam works best next to screen wire and fiberglass, newspaper gets wet and makes it worse, foam some say gets wet but I never had any problems with it.
