Title: Advice on new motor
Post by: dbgroce on July 13, 2010, 07:39:12 pm
Guys I have an 85 C10 and she threw a rod about two weeks ago.  I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.  I am going to buy a new 350 engine.  AutoZone has the Surefire's at around $1400.  Jaspers are about $2000.  From talking to area shops I am looking at about 500-700 to get the job done.

My question is what engine do I need to buy?  The guys who usually work on my cars have sworn by Surefire's for years but said they have had some bad experiences in the past year or two.  Is it worth the extra money to get a Jasper?  Thanks for your help.

you can usually pick up a used sbc for 300-500 and do it your self while your at it rebuild the engine for 200 or so and save about 2k and use that 2k to build a mild 350

About the only thing I buy from Autozone is oil and wax. I would spend the extra money on the Jasper motor. If your paying for labor you don't want to do this job twice.
