Title: won't start

hey everyone. i'm having another prob w/ my 77 3/4ton w/ a 292-6. i changed the trans fluid yesterday because it was leaking from pan and it needed it. the truck started before i did this but i go to start it and nothing happens. i thought the batt. was dead so i charged it and still nada. so i go get a new one and still nada. the starter is new, all connections seem to still be made on everything. is it poss. the ignition switch or something else? any advice is appreciated.

well there's a junction/distribution block thing on the firewall has one or two wires going to it, had one of them break off on a 76 and it wouldn't do anything either no crank nothing like the battery or starter was shot. I'll see if I can find a pic it's onyl got 2 studs on it some I've seen on driver's side upper firewall by the brake booster or moutning bracket. I'm thinking I may have sen some on the pass. side but not sure.

here it is over the booster towards the center of the firewall. Has two wires coming out of it on the right side or driver's side and is just past the squirter hose going under the cowl. It's like right above the ds valve cover on top of the firewall.

here's an up close of it, it's the triangle looking thing with 2 wires and 2 studs, not the taped up mess under it.

Swims, yours is bypassed.  One of those wires should be on the other stud.  I think it's a fusable link, think of it as a giant fuse.

is it cranking at all?  If no, check the starter solenoid by tapping on the starter w/ a hammer.
It could be the neutral safety switch too.
It could be ignition.

If it cranks, it could be fuel starvation (fuel pump?), or no fire at plugs/distributor (coil,module, rotor, cap).

Need more info.

check you connections from the battery to the starter even that small little wire on the starter make sure they aren’t loose

thank you everyone for your info. i checked the starter and the small wire conn. was snapped. will put a new conn. on see what happens.

hmm that's weird, been like that since we had the truck though works fine starts everytime. I can't remember if the 76 had em on the same side or not.

you need 3 wire on the starter for it to work with the key

If your fusible links are on the same side of the bus bar it defeats the purpose of the fusible link

yea I could understand that, but like I said I never touched it, that's how it was when he bought it.

Had the same problem happen to me while i was in between duty stations and i was late checking in all due to a stupid little ground wire to the solenoid.
