Title: A little knocking problem

So I just got my cam broke in and I running down the road enjoying life. Next thing I know I've got no oil pressure and a knock. A couple of questions, is it rebuildable, reasonably with a couple of metal shavings? Can I save my cam; Edelbrock 2103? And lastly, I'm looking at some new cheapy heads. I have 624's which are shot, and I'm considering some good stock heads, or cheap, assembled performance heads that will be okay with a sbc 400 soon to be 406 and my cam; if salvageable. Maybe I'll rebuild the 624's instead? Opinions? Comments? A 350 is out of the question :D

My advice is to stay away from from the 882 heads. They were stock heads in the 70's and early 80's I believe. They do flow good but the problem with them is that if you run your engine hot they are prone to cracking in the center 2-4 or 3-5 piston exhaust seat. I just went through that with my truck. I bought a set from a machine shop (prolly paid too much) and put them on. My radiator sprang a leak on the way to work and it ran hot. Sure enough, the 882 head cracked in the #4 exhaust valve seat. I  had just gotten my money right to redo the interior and I had to turn around and put around $500.00 back in the motor.  So still crappy intyerior. I had my factory 624 heads redone at another machine shop and everything cost cost $280.00 out the door. They are no hot rod heads but I don't care anymore. If I keep having to put money back in the engine, I'll never finish everything else. Plus, I must be getting old, took all my go fast junk off when I had to replace the heads.

Found a guy in janesville with 5 sets of heads, I'll call him. All drilled for the 400. He says they need to be cleaned- whats that mean? I'm getting them rebuilt along with my motor, but I want to find out what's best with my cam if i can save it.
