Title: automatic trans floor shift conversion
Post by: txchainsawgogi on August 13, 2010, 11:54:50 pm: How easy would it be to install a floor shifter? I found a few universal cable operated ones that look nice... I've always liked floor mounted shifters more appealing than on the column.

Is it a pretty easy mod, or would I have to go into the tranny at all?

Post by: team39763 on August 14, 2010, 08:18:32 am: It's a easy mod to do. If I remember correctly, you just need a drill and something to make a bigger hole in the floor for the cable to go through. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine. I have the Hurst Promatic2 in my truck, it's a ratchet shifter.

Post by: Layne on November 28, 2010, 08:41:01 pm: I cheated.... I left part of my column shift on and moved it down when I went to reverse ;D You don't have to make a huge hole; just one large enough to go through the floor. The shifter will cover the hole.

Post by: Psycho71 on November 30, 2010, 08:34:20 am: Not really a hard job at all. The instructions with the shifter will guide you through the whole process. As for reverse lights and neutral safety, just check the feature list on the prospective shifter. It will/should list any and all features the shifter has.

I installed the B&M Hammer in my '71. I mounted it in a custom console I built. But the process is the same as mounting it in the floor. No problems getting it to work.
