Right guys and gals > a bit of advice and suggestions please
As most of you know I'm now having to paint the truck myself, it's a bit like a big jigsaw at the moment.
Two questions : 1st, the truck will be orange and black, what colour do you suggest for the engine? The whole engine bay will be orange too, I'm thinking an orange engine is too much and a black engine would be boring!
2nd > when it's all back together, how much of the front panel (where the lights are) do you see? I've had mine shot blasted and its a little rough in places. Do I need to go mad making it super smooth 'cos it'll save rakes of time if you don't see most of it!!
cheers
Andy

I think a mostly chrome engine would look splendid in your engine bay, or maybe just paint it silver.
-
If your engine bay is orange a black engine with orange accessories would look slick. I would do the core support black.

would anyone have a pic of a '79 nose front on? I'd like to know how much of the core is seen with all the trim, grill etc fitted. I've flicked through the "rides" section but everyone takes a picky from an angle!
cheers

here's my '80 should be the same though

Cheers 1980C10 > that's just what I'm looking for! Apart from the top panel that the hood latches too there's very little core to be seen :) That means it doesn't have to be perfect ;)
Cheers guys, I think I might have to re-write the Johny Cash song {I sprayed it one piece at a time} ;D

Heres some pictures of engine bays from a car show I went to...maybe it can give you some ideas/help

The orange block doesnt look bad at all.
Also my father has a 79 Chevy and you can barely see much behind the grill and trim, so like you said, you don't need to have many worries for that. Good luck with the project

No joke that's what Im doing. So far, the cab, fenders, doors painted, bed in primer. Its the way to go when you don't have a big shop.
-
oooo those bays are sexay. looks like I'll have to make an extra effort now!
cheers for the pics & advice, much appreciated

Andy,
You guys across the big pond listen to the Man in Black? He's a legend.

Royal blue block & brackets with lots of chrome would be slick.

hey we're not that behind the times over here! I like a wide selection depends on what mood I'm in. When I do bodywork prep I'm into Michael Buble as it keeps me calm!!
-
If it's not an all out show truck, Paint everything behind the grille flat black and call it a day. I never notice behind my grille unless im parked with the nose up pointed at the sun...
-
well, i gotta say Andy, for an island, you guys sure do put out some music. Always been a Pink Floyd fan--David Gilmour's solo stuff is fantastic still. Clapton's almost a good a guitar player as Gilmour ;D Must be something in the water out there that turns out great guitar players.
No, you guys aren't behind the times over there (actually you are ahead of us, say about 6 or 8 hours ahead ;D)
Good luck w/ your truck

Grim, not so sure about the royal blue, the interior will be black & grey and the outside orange/black.
78 Chevyrado, cheers for the heads up on that, I've a small area of welding to do on it but I'll wack a couple coats shiny black over it and that'll do ;)
SgtDel > Clapton is quality. Mr Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for over here! The TV show the X Factor has turned out a couple of good uns but some right toilet too!!
Also like a sing along to Robbie Williams but you guys didn't go that much on him!
Back to the truck, garage adorned with hanging panels in primer, dents filled and 2nd coat on just waiting for final rub down and the colour. I could do with the extra 6-8 hrs a night to be able to crack on with it!
-
Hey there! Managed to spend a few hours hiding in the garage and come up with this. Slow but sure ;)
-
and another couple!
-
Looks great!
-
Do I need to go mad making it super smooth 'cos it'll save rakes of time if you don't see most of it!!
If you don't want to spent a ton of time on it you could use textured paint, It will hide most of the sins.
-
Alright mate!
I like the black engine idea with lots of chrome dress up pieces, with stainless headers.... That would look sick IMO. Also black will be much easier to look after.
What about a metallic grey block with chrome??? Go nice with orange ??
-
I'm thinking along the lines of a silver block with chrome trimmings and maybe the odd pin stripe of orange/black in there somewhere. but thats for another day!
It's heading autumn here now so temps are falling and all the panels have to air dry so they take a while but I'm not going to rush it. I've waited long enough to get the paint on so slowly slowly catches monkey!
I have all the paint & materials to get it painted and some etch primer for the engine so I'll have to start saving the pennies (cents!) in the meantime for the shiny bits ;D
-
couple more pics to keep y'all updated
-
Lookin good, when you gonna paint my Blazer for me??? ;o)
-
I'll paint your Blazer but it'll be bit by bit in 2012, just after we have the Olympics!
-
The paint looks great! Are you painting this a piece at a time or is there another reason you already painted the gate's outside?
-
I'm liking that color! :)

Due to space it's one piece at a time until I get the carcas of the cab in the garage!
The reason for the photo outside > it looks sooooooo much better in the real light!
"Old77" > it's close to hugger orange I believe. With the black bits I have planned it'll be lairy thats for sure ;D
There won't be many vehicles over here that are that big and that loud :o
edited for poor spelling!
-
Sounds like an awesome color combo!! Now all you need to do is build a replica General Lee to pull behind it and you'd be set :)
-
ha ha ha not sure about the General Lee and the #01
when it's all done I'm thinking about getting a signwriter to do a few bits, I fancy a big "454" under the hood (where the sound mat should be) so when people ask "what ya got under there" I can lift the hood and show them! I'll also have the Chevy emblem tweeted on the tailgate, big enough to have the truck details smartly in it so I don't have to keep telling everyone what it is ;D
-
A few more pics to keep you going...........
It's tight in the garage, I could really do with a double but I'm working with what I've got!
-
Sweet!
