Here's a stumper for you guys, I asked this on 67-72chevytrucks and it's got alot puzzled as it does me.Our 84 custom deluxe has a narrow brake pedal like ones the stick shifts would have, it's factory auto via the rpo's. There's another guys truck on 67-72 that has the narrow pedal and my dad said his dad's had it as well and it was bought new from the factory and was auto. The 86 k10 we had was wide pedal as almost every other auto I ever seen has.
ANy idea why some were wide and some narrow? Both our trucks have power brakes, and as far as I know it's factory power. ANyway to tell rpo's without the sticker, like the vin?
narrow

I have noticed this too and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Though all our V8 trucks had a wide pedal while my 6 had a narrow one...
-
this truck is v8 factory and it's narrow pedal. lol.
-
perhaps it's just whatever was available in the parts bin when the truck was built.
-
I think the lower trim levels it was hit or miss. It was common to get different dash color pieces on the Biscayne but that is another thread
-
I've only seen it with the m/t set up on any of the trucks I've owned. Sorry I'm no help I guess
-
maybe it has to do with the brakes ex diffrent brake peddle for jb3 vs jb5? a shot in the dark but to me kind of makes sense
-
this is the first I ever seen in person to have the narrow one, every narrow one I ever seen was on a stick shift like vile said, and auto's had the wide ones, but not this truck LOl or the other I seen, but it's hard to say it could have been changed or something. As for the brakes this one has the LD brakes same as the 86 4x4 we had and it had a wide pedal.

That is a Manual brake setup. I would say it was changed out at some point. What does the mount look like at the top?
-
the outside firewall mount? I'll have to look I got some pics but not too much right on pics of it.
-
I think Capt might be asking about the top of the brake pedal bracket on the inside of the firewall.
-
Hmmmm...My '82 had factory power brakes (on the RPO sheet) and still had the narrow pedal.
-
that's why I was asking because I have no clue what it looks like from underneath.
-
Just look up where the pivot is and take a pic.
-
ok I'll have to do that next time I get a chance. But how are they different? Also if it is then that means I could convert to manual brakes easy lol?
-
Auto assemblies only have one cage, manuals have two for the third pedal.
-
ok I understand that and that would mean for me to do a stick shift if it's got the dual cage all I'd need is the pedal for the clutch only and not a new brake pedal and bracket to go with the clutch pedal. I'll have t check it out.
