Hey my name is Adrian I live in Canada and I just traded my 93 chev for a 81 chev plus cash. Now the guy says the engine is a 96 vortec 350 converted to carb. I was just wondering is there an easy way to find out if the heads are vortec? And also he says it's just a stock intake and quadrajet carb and a mild cam. I was also wondering what would be a good intake/carb combo that would work well with the vortec heads and cam. Also the truck has 3 inch exhaust but has manifolds... What would be a good header to run? Also any one know any problems I may face running certain intakes with certain carbs or problems I may face with the heads. Thanks!

don't know anything about vortec heads but the casting numbers you would need to see what you got are under the valve covers

Simple. Vortec L31 heads have a total of 8 intake manifold bolts located at the corners of the intake in pairs.

The best heads have casting numbers ending with 906 or 062. If you have those, be very happy. choosing a cam depends on what you want from the engine, and your gearing. I know of a Vortec guru who truly knows his stuff, he's Atilla the Fun on www.thirdgen.org, he seems to be great at speccing cams, noone ever complains, and he claims he was once offered a position on the tech help phones by one of the major cam companies.
If you want to get his input without joining that forum, I could be a go-between.
