Title: step side bumber help needed
Post by: Buddy on August 23, 2010, 05:37:01 am
I have an 85 4x4 shorty, I have changed my bed out for a step side. I tryed to install in this weekend and everything went great but i noticed  my rear bumber brackets don't seem to work. they hit my box. my question is there different types of brackets for a step side than there are for the fleet side?

You installed a step side bed on your truck and the step side bumper hits? Where does it hit? Can you get pics? What year is the new bed and bumper from?

I just looked at my step side and my fleet side trucks and the brackets are different.  The step side seems longer and wider than the fleet side ones.   Tom

Title: step side bumper help again
Post by: Buddy on August 24, 2010, 05:52:43 pm
hey guys

I still tring to get this figuered out. I have tried everything to get this bumper to fit my step side and I am going crazy!!! The first problem is that i cant get the hols lined up, I can tweak it a little and get the bolt holes in and it is way out of wack. I have switched the bed from a fleet side to a step side and am tring to find out if they are different brackets!! I think they are, I need someone to show me a picture or something so I can try to find them or give me some idea of what I can do!!!

The bumpers on a stepside are different than a fleetside and there for different.  The bumper should bolt up though just be too long.

when you are putting it on, don't tighten all the bolts as you install them.

so you are the bumpers are even different, i didn't know that. i thought it was just the brackets. So is the only bumper that fits a step side  is one off of a step side? do any other fit that you can swap out?

a step side bumper is shorter than a fleet side, so yes you need one off a step side truck.  like capt said, you can bolt a fleet side bumper to a step side, it will just be longer and stick out on the ends.
