Any down sides to removing the charcoal can on a tbi vehicle? As long as the lines plugged.

I am sure you know the purpose of the charcoal can, so the only draw back is if you need to smog it. Otherwise the vapor if any will exit through your carb.

He doesn't have a carb. Why do you want to remove it? I would leave it.

No real use in keeping it, it sure cleans up under hood alot, the line is messed up going to the tbi and lately when I walk around the DS fender I smell gas with the truck off.
Only thing I know is it reuses the fumes from the tank and sends them to the tbi to be burnt off.

And where do you propose those fumes should go???
Block off the line and pressurize your tank? Vent to the atmosphere(you will smell more gas that way)????

yea vent into the air might as well since it does already huh?
I aint stupid enough to block the line knowing it's a vent, like I said I already removed 2 of them before no problems just wondered about a tbi truck.
ggeez guess I won't ask questions anymore. I didn't know everyone was so dead set on keeping the spit can piece a junk.
Chris or anybody else just delete this thread, I'll do what I got to and figure it out on my own.

Get your panties out from being bunched up....
1- you made no comment regarding what to put in place of the canister.
2- removing emissions devices is a Federal offense.
3- you say you smell gas fumes now, it will get worse without the canister.
4- you don't seem to want suggestions/comments/opinions since you already decided to remove it so why even ask anything about it.

because just as I asked I wondered if it would effect the computer or something.
I always put a breather filter in it's place when it gets removed.
If removing it or anything else is a federal offense why does alot of ppl do it? why does anyone use or run headers? why do they even sale them? not all of them have an offroad use only, and not all are for vehicles old enough for classic or antique.
So that is exactly why I said just delete the freaking thrad I aint gonna cause problems fighting with ppl who only give me questions instead of answers. Not only that as I said I've done it before and you know what? I';ve never smelled any gas fumes after doing it. I have no clue why but never did. People remove smog all the time and if I were in a state that required it then yea I wouldn't touch a thing but here in wv i ditch it all, egr, air pump, only thing I ever leave is cats and they are gutted because it's only visual which is dumb. They only look to see if you have cats, even if you have headers or whatever they only look for cats. They never pop the hood or snif the pipes anything.

thanks for the link man it does help, might be why I smell gas and have some rough idle when cold.

I would disconnect it just enough to see if it has an ill effect; if it does just reconnect it and if not take out the rest. Btw-I'm pretty sure you won't do any prison time for this.

LOL yea my thoughts as well and have considered it, just unhook and plug the tbi port, try it and if it's ok go from there, if not then hook it up but get a new filter for it. I'll just add it to my list of things to do. Right now it's cab corners, body work on them, paint them, clean and paint the frame, bottom of the bed, and reinstall, then a running valve adjustment, then maybe a test of the charcoal canister.

You might have to get a vented gas cap too, Swims.

A little off topic but my charcoal canister had somehow imploded and charcoal was sucked through my carb plugging it up and wrecked the accelerator pump. A dip tank doesn't get rid of charcoal but a drill does. So charcoal canisters and I don't get along too well :(.

ouch not good to hear man.
As for a vented cap usually with the can removed a regular cap does fine. It's fine on my 85mcss and on dad's 84 c10 it built pressure with or without the canister and funny thing is the line aint kinked anywheres. The line in the sending unit isn't either. I can't get air to blow through it good either it's kinda hard, it goes through but barely.
